Job Description

As Director Canada Segment Expenses and trusted advisor to the business you will have an opportunity to use your strong background in planning reporting and analysis and knowledge of the Canadian businessto support the strategic management of all Canadian Segment expenses across all Functions and BUs.

The position supports directly the AVP Head of Canada Segment Expenses and indirectly the Group Insurance role is the central point of contact for the Canadian Segment with expense policy setting reporting systems strategy and analysis. This role will closely work with the BU reporting managers/senior analysts to form a reliable team that acts as the trusted advisor on all expense issues for all constituents across the Canadian Segment by providing valuable insights and analysis on expenses and related strategic opportunities.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting: Lead the aggregation of BU results and assist in preparing and presenting regular expense updates to Senior Management (Canadian Segment CFO as well as Group Benefits GM and CFO). Identify improvements required in financial reporting to meet the evolving needs of our customers.

  • Annual Expense Plan/Budget: Lead the coordination and preparation of annual expense plan/budget exercises for inclusion in the annual planning process. This includes working with the BU reporting managers/senior analysts Expense functional peers direct functional work area managers Planning Teams and CFO representatives to establish a transparent and efficient process.

  • Advisory: As part of forecasting exercises and with the help of the BU reporting managers/senior analysts and direct functional work area managers identify expense risk and opportunities and recommend potential actions for BU CFO. Build relationships across business and expense functions and establish a high level of credibility and maintain high standards in interactions with Business and Finance clients.

  • Expense Initiatives: Manage various expense reporting initiatives projects and tasks as they arise including IFRS17 developments. This could include developing ad-hoc analysis or reports managing transition to new reporting tools or systems providing financial/accounting support developing new expense allocation policies for profitability analysis etc.

  • Leadership and Development: Provide strong proactive leadership and coaching to indirect reports and extended team of financial professionals. Cultivate an innovative environment by supporting creativity as well as acting as a role model in encouraging collaborative team behaviors. Drive continuous improvement in engagement throughout the organization.

  • Process Enhancements: Identify and recommend best practices process and controls as well as supporting the development of suitable reporting and provide necessary project support to advance the objectives of the ESSC.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong eye for business with ability to communicate complex financial concepts analysis and results in a clear concise easy to understand manner including the ability to interact with senior leaders and representatives from BUs and functions

  • A comprehensive knowledge of reporting requirements sound business practices and controls and accounting principles which apply to financial companies and the area of expense management.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to influence others in aligning to a new vision; motivate others to accept progress and change

  • Strong accounting and expense systems knowledge (e.g. Essbase SERT)

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to balance multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong project management skills

  • Great teammate collaborative self-starter well-organized innovative and high level of initiative

  • Professional designation (MBA CPA CA CGA CMA) preferred with 8 years of related experience

Salary range is expected to be between

$100950.00 CAD - $181710.00 CAD
