Job Summary

Eurofins Environment Testing Northwest is searching for a Laboratory Technician to assist in our Culturing Department. This department supports the maintenance and care of aquatic species specifically Ameriamysis bahia (mysid shrimp) Menidia beryllina (inland silverside) and fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas) in a controlled laboratory environment. 

The Laboratory Technician I using general laboratory methods techniques equipment and instrumentation in compliance with Eurofins Environment Testings Quality Assurance programs and SOPs supports laboratory operations through general maintenance of laboratory and supply storage areas equipment instruments and supplies.


Laboratory Technician I responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Retrieves samples from Sample Control for analysis.
  • Performs sample preparation which may include but is not limited to a combination of the following methods:
  1. Aliquot samples
  2. Spike and trace samples
  3. Prepare reagents
  4. Bottle samples
  5. Prepare concentrations
  6. Separation
  • Resolves discrepancies and anomalies to ensure samples are properly labeled.
  • Prepares general laboratory paperwork such as recording analysis results tracking samples bench sheets and laboratory logbooks.
  • Washes laboratory glassware to prepare for next days samples.
  • Stocks laboratory supplies.
  •  Cleans work area(s) to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Assists other laboratory areas as needed.

Qualifications :

  • high school diploma required
  • Degree in Marine Biology Wildlife Biology or equivalent preferred but not required 
  • Aquarium Experience preferred. 
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time lift up to 25lbs 
  • Must be available for overtime and weekends when required.
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
  • Professional working proficiency in English is a requirement including the ability to read write and speak in English.

Additonal preferred experience:

    Basic knowledge of aquatic biology and ecology
    Experience with water quality testing (pH salinity temperature ammonia DO)
    Proficiency in maintaining and calibrating aquarium equipment (filters pumps heaters)
    Prior familiarity with fish and aquariums is ideal
    Understanding of feeding protocols and nutritional requirements for these species
    Ability to monitor and record fish and shrimp health behavior and growth
    Skill in maintaining clean and sterile environments to prevent contamination
    Knowledge of breeding and larval rearing techniques for aquatic species


Additional Information :

This is a full-time position Sunday through Thursday 9 am to 5 pm with possible overtime and weekend as needed. 

Compensation: $17 - $20 / hour .
