Dual Enrollment Academic Counselor
Position Description
Jacksonville State University invites applications for the Dual Enrollment Academic Counselor. The Dual Enrollment Academic Counselor will report to the Dual Enrollment Coordinator for Academic Affairs and will join a team committed to our students success.
In this role the Counselor will work with Dual Enrollment students to provide additional academic resources and support. We recognize Dual Enrollment is high stakes as our students are completing high school graduation requirements at the same time as they are earning college credit. This role is a trusted team member who will provide our high school partners with timely information.
Our team has built a reputation as a responsible Dual Enrollment partner. Through initiatives like our Jax Track advisement model we provide intentional academic advisement to ensure students are completing a planned pathway to their future. We also want to build confidence in our students and credibility with our stakeholders.
Jax States Dual Enrollment program is one of the largest in the state; however this team also wants to ensure we are making every student count. With the university posting overall record enrollment for the past five years the Dual Enrollment Academic Counselor will join the Friendliest Campus in the South at an exciting time and will play an integral role in shaping and expanding this program for the future.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in an appropriate field of study
- Valid drivers license
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-2 years of experience in higher education
- Experience in Navigate Student Success Program preferred
Position Duties
- Check registration reports to ensure that students are taking courses that align with the ALSDE Dual Enrollment Equivalency List
- Provide progress reports midterm grade reports and final grade reports to the high school partners
- Work with faculty to ensure they are trained to provide success reporting and updates on Academic Alerts/Cases in Navigate
- Schedule and conduct student success appointments with the student and high school guidance counselor to discuss academic concerns
- Assist with Virtual Gamecock Orientation modules for Dual Enrollment students
- Create a Peer Mentor program with current JSU students who are former JSU Dual Enrollment students
- Provide in-field student success coaching when needed to partner high schools that have been identified as high-need through Navigate reporting analytics
- Document Navigate communication with DE students (texts emails communication campaigns) appointment summaries and work with Student Success Technology Office to ensure successful tracking of student needs
- Work collaboratively with the division of Student Success to ensure DE program is consistent with JSU Student Success/Advisement models and attend all their professional development events
- Direct DE students to other JSU resources and work with those units (tutoring IT Support Writing Center Academic Departments etc.)
- Refer high-credit DE students to their JSU academic advisors when they have met most of their high school graduation requirements
- Create partner high school annual report card infographic handouts
- Advise DE students on courses to take within their Jax Track
- Work with any DE software/management systems
- Assist with all DE events such as orientations registration events partner luncheon professional development etc.
- Travel to partner high schools as needed for registration advisement student success and other duties or events
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Some evenings and weekends required
