THE ROLE

The Counseling Program at The Family Institute at Northwestern University invites applications for a Core Faculty on-ground in Evanston Illinois (full-time non-tenure courtesy rank/promotion eligible). This is a 12-month non-tenure track with clinical practice expectations at The Family Institute at Northwestern University. Teaching in person classes during the academic year (September to June) with clinical practice expectations year-round. This position may include opportunities for teaching additional courses/overload. As a visiting position this is a 12-month position with the option for renewal or revision to permanent position dependent on performance and budget approval for the following academic year.


The Department seeks experienced counselor education candidates who have expertise in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC). The Counseling Department at The Family Institute at Northwestern University is CACREP accredited as one program with two delivery methods (onground and online). They will be multiculturally competent and demonstrate counselor identity though memberships and participation in regional national and/or international professional associations and conferences. The ideal candidate will support the programs historical foundation in psychodynamic and/or integrative thought and reflective practice and will be able to teach several courses in the CACREP-accredited curriculum. The successful candidate will have a track record of excellence in teaching clinical practice and graduate student supervision and mentorship. They will have a strong commitment to scholarship and experience in faculty teams and committees. This is a full-time non-tenured position with the possibility of promotion through the courtesy rank/promotion of Clinical Lecturer through Clinical Full Professor at Northwestern University.


ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Teaching quarterly (Fall Winter and Spring)
  2. Clinical practice (working with a weekly caseload of clients in TFIs staff practice)
  3. Serving as a member of the Clinical Training team
  4. Serving as a member of admissions team
  5. Academic advising
  6. Mentorship of student scholarship (e.g. Capstone experiences)
  7. Designated program committee leadership or membership
  8. Program event planning or involvement (e.g. orientation graduation etc.)
  9. Clinical supervision and mentorship
  10. Scholarship
  11. TFI service
  12. Perform other duties as assigned by manager for business necessity

Other Job Responsibilities

  1. Leadership or involvement in interdepartmental committees
  2. Assisting with programs accreditation activities
  3. Assistant with programs accreditation activities
  4. Involvement in online-on campus program alignment activities
  5. Representing the program in TFI wide activities

SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and Skills

  1. Earned Doctorate from a CACREP Accredited Counselor Education and Supervision Program
  2. Licensure as an LCPC in Illinois
  3. Counselor identity as evidenced by professional affiliations publications and licensure in Counselling field
  4. Evidence of ability to teach a range of courses within the discipline of Counseling
  5. Excellent organization skills
  6. Creativity innovation and ability to work independently and within a team
  7. Ability to adapt to new and rapidly changing situations
  8. Strong time management and problem-solving skills
  9. Ability to successfully resolve issues from identification through resolution
  10. Skilled at connecting and building rapport with students and faculty
  11. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  12. Excellent oral and written communication skills
  13. Cultural humility and a strong interest in creating an inclusive and diverse community
  14. Experience teaching in digital platforms (desired)

MINIMUM HIRING SPECIFICATIONS

  1. Earned Doctorate from a CACREP-accredited Counselor Education and Supervision program
  2. Experience teaching graduate level courses in clinical mental health
  3. Scholarly track record
  4. Experience supervising graduate students in clinical settings
  5. License or licensed eligibility in Illinois
  6. Residence in Chicagoland
  7. Capacity to work in a digital environment

Compensation is based on a number of factors including but not limited to: scope and responsibilities of the position; a candidates applicable work experience key skills and qualifications as well as internal and external market considerations. The pay range for this full-time exempt position is $88000.00 - $126500.00/year.
