Job Description

Location: Eaton Estate Chester
Department:Forestry and Conservation Team
Reporting to:Lead Forester Eaton

Work schedule: Full-time 40 hours per week Monday to Friday

Contract type: Permanent

About the Role

Eaton Estate has identified a significant area of agricultural land which will be planted with trees to create new woodlands. The Estate is seeking an enthusiastic Establishment Forester to join our Forestry and Conservation Team and undertake the planting and maintenance of these woodlands. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone experienced in the establishment of woodland or someone looking to start or develop a career in forestry.

Key Responsibilities

Help Organise the annual tree planting programme (OctoberApril) and undertake the planting work.

Co-ordinate casual and contract planting teams ensuring high standards of planting and health & safety.

Maintain young plantations through mowing weeding and pruning.

Assist with other forestry duties throughout the year.

Plan and manage your own workload contributing to weekly and monthly work programmes.

Maintain equipment and PPE ensuring all machinery is safe and functional.

Fulfil health & safety responsibilities including risk assessments and compliance with legislation and estate policies.

Maintain machinery and chemical records.

Undertake training as .

Collaborate with other departments as directed.

Uphold the reputation and values of Grosvenor Estate at all times.

Essential Skills & Attributes

Basic forestry skills are an advantage but full training will be provided.

Comfortable with lone working for extended periods.

High standards and pride in your work especially in planting and maintaining young trees.

Tenacity and dedication to achieving excellent results even in challenging conditions.

Willingness to learn tractor driving and machinery operation (experience is an advantage but not essential).

Problem-solving skills and ability to work on your own initiative.

Attention to detail.

Current UK driving licence (towing licence E is an advantage).

Broad understanding of rural issues (for example woodland management conservation farming).

Occasional weekend work may be .

This role will involve working outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions.
