Description

The Director of Development is responsible for the creation and oversight of all aspects of donor relations program and management of fundraising initiatives. This includes the development of an annual fundraising plan which details campaign strategies that support maximizing cultivation stewardship and solicitation of donors donor prospects and stakeholders. Supervising the fundraising team the Director of Development leads the creation implementation and evaluation of the museums fundraising initiatives including major individual and corporate gifts events grants and innovative campaigns. This position is uniquely poised to drive efforts of the museums race and social justice initiatives. The Director of Development works closely with the Board of Trustees and the President & CEO to hold the primary responsibility of ensuring contributed income goals are met.


Job status: Full Time Salary Exempt

Pay range: $130000-$140000

Position reports to: President & CEO

Position supervises: Donor Relations Manager Partnership & Events Manager Digital Marketing Manager Marketing Manager

Work week: Monday-Friday. Some nights weekends and special events required.


Responsibilities & Duties

Fund Development (55%)

  • Lead the creation and successful implementation of an ongoing cost-effective and broad-based contributed income fundraising plan utilizing a variety of strategies including annual fund and major gifts events foundation grants and corporate partnership to secure general operating support and reach annual goals.
  • Recruit retain and support professional development staff. Supervise Corporate Relations & Events Manager and contracted specialists. Help identify new corporate partners and grant opportunities that align with the museums mission values and equity efforts and support relationships. Guide the fundraising events calendar and execution. Establish departmental best practices. Provide a healthy inquisitive work environment where employees are respected and fostered institutional biases are broken down and life-long learning is achieved.
  • Provide performance feedback and opportunities for professional development.
  • Work closely with the President & CEO and the Board of Trustees to identify cultivate solicit and steward current and prospective donors. Make concerted efforts to diversify those who contribute financially to the museum.
  • Employing expert communication skills act as a main advocate of the organization to increase awareness and understanding of KQCMs mission vision and commitment to equity.
  • Identify a diverse pool of major gifts prospects and conduct ongoing personal meetings to foster healthy relationships. Solicit financial support often in congruence with the President & CEO.
  • Manage current grant program and conduct prospect research and outreach to identify and engage with new diverse prospects. Collaborate with contracted specialists and key staff to draft submit and manage grant proposals and contracts.
  • Analyze and evaluate fundraising efforts for efficacy and evolve approaches to achieve goals.
  • Develop and maintain the organizations contributed income budget.

Leadership (45%)

  • Identify opportunities and initiatives that advance organizational goals.
  • Maintain advanced knowledge of and utilize fundraising tactics to leverage the organizations strategic plan.
  • Be an active participant in Board of Trustee meetings regularly presenting fundraising initiatives. Serve on and manage the collaboration of the Development Committee.
  • Applying fundraising principles to the Trustees themselves inspire confidence and effectiveness in board fundraising activities.
  • Remain informed of industry trends through seminars reading materials and relationships with leaders in the field. Evolve accordingly.
  • Participate and represent the organization in community groups.
  • Act as a public relations spokesperson for the organization crafting or supporting public statements when appropriate and managing crises.

Requirements

Experience and Qualifications


Requirements

  • Five years experience in non-profit fundraising
  • Capital campaign experience
  • Ability to use expert written and verbal communication effectively with a wide variety of individuals including donors corporate representatives teens children and parents
  • Approachable outgoing and poised personality
  • Detail oriented and extremely reliable
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time work outdoors move from ground to above shoulder ascend/descend stairs position self to bend stoop sit push and pull things when needed.

Preferred

  • Bachelors degree in related field
  • Bilingual applicants
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Platform
  • Proficiency in Humanitru or other CRM Systems
  • Experience working in a museum environment
  • Experience handling high-profile clientele
  • Experience working on a small team
