Job Description
Typical Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support and documentation for ship feasibility concept preliminary and contract design integration stability analysis hydrodynamic and seakeeping properties.
- Evaluate systems and equipment develop and analyze requirements perform studies and documentation relating to hull form stability weights structures and design.
- Develop system documentation and ship specifications for surface assets and boats perform structural analysis and design using ISO and class society standards.
- Conduct analyses on stability studies assist with inclining experiments and weight and stability tests and oversee design development.
Location: Primarily onsite at THOR office in Arlington/Shirlington VA.
Travel:Up to 10% travel is anticipated.
Typical Physical Activity: Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve: repetitive motion. Periodic visits to waterfront/shipboard environments. May involve: traversing shipboard environments (e.g. confined spaces ladders hatches) or vision.
Security Clearance Eligibility Required:This position requires a DoD Secret security clearance. A qualified candidate must either already possess an active or interim Secret security clearance (preferred);OR be eligible for a Secret security clearance upon hire.
Typical Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelors degree in Naval Architecture Marine Engineering Ocean Engineering or another relevant technical engineering or a marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
- At least three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience in naval architecture.
- Experience with computer applications relating to naval architecture and ship design.
- Experience with corrosion principles of metals for surface assets and boats.
- Familiarity with USN USCG IACS and/or commercial ship design rules and regulations.
- Proficient with common productivity software.
- Strong communications skills.
Additional Preferred Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Ideal experience will have been obtained in U.S. Federal or commercial ship or boat building acquisition programs.
- Experience with DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs.
- Experience with RhinoCAD Ship Constructor GHS MaxSurf Shipweight.
