Employee in this position will serve as the Division Traffic Services Supervisor. Duties include planning and coordinating sign installation on projects planning and coordinating installation of pavement markings; overseeing and monitoring the systematic replacement of signs and markings; supervising installation of emergency detours; assisting crew leaders in technical problems; providing expertise in reviewing plans for installation of signs and pavement markings on contract construction; monitoring budget to ensure conformance; overseeing inventory system; including placing orders audits and charges; conducting training workshops; performing field inspections at worksites and facilities; conducting monthly employee safety meetings; interviewing and recommending new employees; establishing employee productivity goals analyzing performance data for accuracy and verifying production rates are within established goals; administering performance appraisal system for employees; compiling annual equipment replacement list; inspecting equipment to ensure proper servicing and maintenance.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Management prefers applicants with the following:
- Working knowledge of standard traffic sign and pavement marking installation/maintenance
- Experience planning developing scheduling tracking and completing projects independently
- Knowledge of MUTC Standards and work zone traffic control
- Knowledge of SAP MMS and other similar computer applications
- Experience in Supervising both NCDOT work crews and contractor operations
Additional Expectations:
Able to use technical knowledge to perform investigations and solve complicated traffic problems. Strong managerial skills necessary to coordinate projects with other departments. Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills for reports letter writing and daily contact with the public other DOT Departments public officials contractors and employees of other governmental agencies. Position is assigned to a normal office environment approximately 70% of the time; remaining 30% involves field reviews inspections etc. Must have the ability to prepare and administer contracts for the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices. Must possess a working knowledge of the NCDOT Standard Drawings and Specifications as they relate to traffic control devices. Position will require knowledge of report creation utilizing spreadsheets databases web-based production planning (MMS) and budgetary analysis software (SAP). Must be able to traverse rough and or uneven terrain. Must be able to operate a State vehicle. Position will require some climbing bending and walking on uneven terrain. Must be able to perform heavy lifting. Safey toe shoes are required.
