REQUIRES A SCHOOL NURSE LICENSE ISSUED BY THE OHIO
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION OR IS WILLING TO OBTAIN
THIS LICENSE
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The School Nurse shall work toward improved physical and
mental health of all students (K-12) and improved attitudes
and ideas of what constitutes proper health practices within the
schools and the home community. Implements and executes
provisions of state statutes board policies and administrative
rules and regulations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Coordinates any health services inlcuding but not
limited to those listed below.
2. Trains and directs volunteer and/or paid aides in providing
school health services.
3. Directly participates in providing school health services.
4. Maintains current knowledge of school health needs by
communicating withprincipals teachers parents
and students.
5. Acts as a liaison among community health agencies
and Plain Local Schools.
6. Implements appropriate procedures to deal with
communicable diseases.
7. Provides assistance to students school staff and
parents as a health resource personand/or health
education teacher.
8. Provides inservice for staff to develop awareness of
health needs and programs and totrain staff in
aprpopriate and safe implementation of services.
9. Provides health services during outdoor education.
10. Develops plan for staff health appraisal and health
improvement programs.
11. Assists special education personnel in obtaining
information for multi-factoredevaluations.
12. Coordinates directs and conducts the following
school health programs:
Immunization audit and follow-up
Health screenings for K-12
Vision screening for assigned grades and referrals
Scoliosis screening
Lice infestation checks
Health records system - written and electronic
13. Participates in management of illness and injury in the
school situation.
14. Provides anything medically necessary for student care.
15. Establishes and maintains first aid centers in each school.
16. Carries out other responsibilities as required by the
Assistant Superintendent.
