(Senior) Staff Machine Learning Engineer Generative AI Growth Marketing
About Growth Marketing ML
In Growth Marketing our goal is to increase the number of transacting Customers while also growing their purchase frequency and lifetime value. We build core platforms and services that power Coupangs growth including Search Advertising Affiliate Platform Display Targeting & Re-targeting CRM Audience Platform and other marketing services for landing tracking & attribution.
Our ML team drives innovation across these platforms including recommendation personalization budget optimization keyword bidding and creative optimization. We are now expanding into Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI to transform how we optimize ads creatives and product recommendations at scale.

Basic Qualifications
- 8 years of experience in ML engineering including 2 years hands-on with LLMs transformers or generative models.
- Demonstrated track record of owning ML projects end-to-end and driving measurable business impact.
- Strong applied experience in training fine-tuning and deploying LLMs for real-world applications.
- Proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks (PyTorch or TensorFlow).
- Solid foundation in modern ML including transformers self-supervised learning generative modeling multimodal methods.
Role & Responsibilities
- Design and implement end-to-end LLM-driven solutions for advertising and marketing use cases (e.g. creative generation product embeddings recommendation copywriting targeting).
- Develop and fine-tune large-scale transformer-based models (pretraining instruction tuning RAG multimodal).
- Build scalable pipelines for training evaluation and online serving of generative models.
- Run experiments to measure business impact (CTR CVR GMV ROAS) and iterate quickly.
- Collaborate closely with cross-team members to integrate LLMs into production systems.
- Mentor junior engineers and establish best practices for LLM/GenAI development.

- MS or PhD in Computer Science Machine Learning or related fields.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience applying LLMs or generative AI in ads recommendation or creative optimization.
- Experience building distributed training pipelines and scalable inference systems.
- Familiarity with experimentation platforms and A/B testing at scale.
- Strong cross-functional communication and ability to operate independently in a distributed global org.
- Proven ability to mentor influence and set technical direction without formal management authority.
- Strong written and verbal communication and teamwork skills.
