Job Summary

The Head Volleyball Coach is a key member of the coaching team who provides leadership and vision within the Athletics Department as well as among the student-athletes. This is responsible for performing the duties and requirements of the head coach for the Volleyball program as well as working in coordination with others in Athletics to achieve the departmental and strategic addition this person must be committed to the education Mission of the University.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads recruitment for the program including recruiting student-athletes who can be successful academically athletically and socially at St. Marys University.
  • Ensures the NCAA eligibility and registration for current players and incoming recruits.
  • Organizes conducts and supervises all practices and games.
  • Schedules nationally competitive team competitions.
  • Assists with admissions on-campus housing and enrollment of recruited student-athletes.
  • Teaches and instructs the technical and motivational aspects of the sport to the student-athletes.
  • Develops training and health plans in conjunction with the Sports Performance and Athletic Training staff.
  • Supports the development of each student-athlete spiritually academically physically and socially.
  • Observes all St. Marys University Lone Star Conference and NCAA policies and requirements.
  • Interacts with university departments.
  • Prepares evaluates and maintains of all administrative and certification data for each student-athlete including the academic counseling of each student.
  • Develops conducts and implements all fund-raising efforts.
  • Develops and maintains budget including: recruitment team travel and equipment.
  • Assists with the participation of all community fund raising efforts and public relations.
  • Assists with other athletic department duties as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university; Masters degree preferred.
  • 5 years of experience coaching Volleyball at the collegiate level is ideal.
  • Proven experience working with and improving the performance of elite student-athletes is ideal.
  • Must clear and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance.
  • Must maintain a valid drivers license motor vehicle liability insurance and personal injury insurance and complete the University Van Driver Training within 90 days of employment date.
  • Must be able to travel and work flexible hours including holidays evenings and weekends.
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate basic skills in MS Office and Office 365 (Word Excel Teams Outlook and PowerPoint) including experience with virtual platforms such as Zoom.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong public relations and customer service skills with an ability to implement diplomacy and discretion at all times; ability to work effectively with communities across the university.
  • Must be highly knowledgeable of NCAA & university rules compliance polices and regulations and familiarity with the Lone Star Conference rules and regulations
  • Must have ability to work effectively with faculty staff and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds. Ability to interact with university departments students and prospective student-athletes.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Working conditions are in an office environment and university campus setting. Must be able to move across the university campus to conduct day to day business.
  • While performing this role the employee work outdoors when they work at athletic fields sporting events practices or job sites work indoors in a gym or other athletic facility.
  • While performing this role the employee will be regularly required to sit walk and stand; talk and hear both in person and by telephone; and use hands repetitively to operate standard office equipment; and occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions and is frequently exposed to extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles toxic or caustic chemicals extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. And may be exposed to loud and distracting sounds.
  • Frequently communicates with others using approved technological resources; must be able to exchange accurate information through designated systems within a timely manner.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
