Job Description

Director of Excellence Access and Opportunity

Description:

Under the supervision of the Superintendent this position is responsible for developing and implementing goals that support the districts strategic plan mission and vision while specifically promoting a climate of excellence access opportunity and inclusion for all. This position develops institutional policies for consideration by the School Committee as well as practices and programs that foster a climate of acceptance respect and valuing the cultural and linguistic diversity of students staff parents and the broader community. The Director will work in collaboration with school and district leaders to lead efforts to sustain a culture of inclusion for all students by narrowing the gaps between the highest and lowest performing students eliminating the disproportionality between student groups that occupy the highest and lowest achievement categories planning organizing and directing initiatives related to the cultural and linguistic diversity of our community providing leadership to increase effectiveness in promoting excellence access opportunity and inclusion for all in our community district-wide developing and implementing the districts plan and serving as the districts leader for goals that ensure excellence access and opportunity for all in our culturally and linguistically diverse community.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in education administration public policy social work or related area
  • Knowledge of current and evolving federal state and district requirements related to equal access issues.
  • Deep understanding of strategies that support diverse cultural and linguistic students in closing academic achievement gaps and strengthening social mental health and behavioral health needs especially in public education.
  • Demonstrated understanding of culturally-responsive teaching and education-related practices social justice and diversity as fundamental aspects of academic excellence.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with students parents community representatives and school personnel from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability as a professional development trainer with skills in group facilitation and the ability to deliver culturally and linguistically responsive related training to school-based personnel.
  • Ability to serve as an internal resource and consultant working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders in a politically sensitive context and complicated by competing perspectives or interests.
  • Knowledge of and ability to lead people through change processes.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Masters degree in education administration or a related field
  • Massachusetts licensure as a Supervisor/Director or other administration license
  • 5 to 10 years of progressively responsible professional experience in educational administration public service or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities.
  • Fluent speaker and writer of a second language.

Essential Duties:

  • Implement the action plan devised from the districts plans and needs assessments focusing on student achievement and professional development that supports excellence access and opportunity for all students.
  • Lead the districts equity inclusion and belonging task force engaging all constituencies regarding the districts plans and needs assessments.
  • Facilitate the implementation of school-based teams that advance the goals of equity inclusion and belonging and provide each team with the necessary resources to support the districts objectives.
  • Provide leadership for the implementation of the districts plans and needs assessment including regular reports on progress toward goals that support the culturally and linguistically responsive curricula instruction and learning environments.
  • Create a recruitment plan to actively recruit educators from diverse backgrounds that reflect our culturally and linguistically diverse community.
  • Provide coordination consultation and assistance to the Superintendent and leadership staff on matters related to students staff and parents that further the goals of equal access excellence and opportunity for all students as well as culturally responsive pedagogy and practices.
  • Advise the Superintendent Directors and Principals regarding organizational development including philosophy and goals service standards job performance and productivity standards and special program development and implementation.
  • Facilitate the identification of district and school actions to support students parents and families ensuring all students are career and college ready.
  • Promote supportive and culturally responsive learning environments that foster academic achievement for all students.
  • Develop organize and implement professional development opportunities for district building and program staff with an emphasis on racial cultural and linguistic awareness to support the closing of achievement gaps and promote the social-emotional well-being of all students.
  • Collaborate with district administrators to develop lead and implement a systematic process that identifies and addresses inequalities and other experiences that create barriers to student engagement and achievement.
  • Promote and implement district and site-based approaches to community access and engagement.
  • Develop and implement systems and procedures to address the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse students parents and families.
  • Utilize relevant data resources to track and analyze outreach strategies within the district and community that ensure all in our diverse community have access and opportunity to engage in meaningful ways.
  • Implement reviews and comply with federal state laws and District policies.
  • Collect and analyze data to inform decision-making identify areas for growth and inform strategic actions that close achievement gaps and promote students social-emotional well-being.
  • Provide for the continuing review and improvement of existing curricula and the preparation of new curricula such as anti-bias and cultural proficiency curricula as needed.
  • Confer with experts to ensure that the initiatives policies and practices of the districts are grounded in research and develop initiatives policies and practices that promote culturally and linguistically responsive pedagogy and practices.
  • Partner with families and community organizations to foster dialogue about equity and develop solutions that promote access excellence and opportunities for all students and families in schools.
  • Partner with and enhance the Districts relationships with key stakeholder groups including Parent Advisory Committees the Superintendents Leadership Team Central Office Departments the School Committee the Mayors Office and key community-based organizations to meet the goals of the Everett Public Schools.
  • Solicit feedback and support efforts of parent and community groups advocating for traditionally underserved and/or under-resourced students.
  • Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent.
