The Citadel a fully accredited public co-educational college located in historic Charleston South Carolina invites applications for two full-time nine-month tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry beginning August 2026.
The Citadel serves approximately 2300 undergraduate students in the South Carolina Corps of Cadets and another 1200 civilian students through The Citadel Graduate College which offers evening and online undergraduate graduate and professional degree programs. For fifteen consecutive years U.S. News & World Report has ranked The Citadel as the top public college in the South among masters-level institutions.
The Department of Chemistry one of seven departments in the Swain Family School of Science and Mathematics offers an ACS-certified B.S. degree with a Biochemistry concentration and a B.A. degree with Environmental and Clinical Chemistry options. The department is research-active and emphasizes small class sizes personalized instruction undergraduate research and faculty-student engagement.
The primary responsibility of this position is teaching undergraduate chemistry courses with a primary focus on Biochemistry. Additional teaching assignments may include General Chemistry for STEM majors laboratory courses in the Clinical Chemistry concentration and other areas as needed. Faculty are also expected to:
Serve as academic and research advisers to undergraduate students.
Contribute to curriculum development departmental service and institutional governance.
Maintain scholarly productivity and participate in professional development.
A doctoral degree from an accredited institution in Biochemistry Chemistry or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
Experience in undergraduate teaching and research mentoring.
Expertise in biochemistry or interdisciplinary areas such as material science bioengineering or pharmacology.
Demonstrated ability to support undergraduate research and student success.
Interest or experience in curriculum development and outreach.
