Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

Nature of Work

Thefundamental reason that this position exists is to lead the EMA team in theplanning coordination and development of emergency management operations forthe City and County of Montgomery and to ensure the jurisdictions andcommunities have the capability and sustained capacity to prepare for respondto mitigate and recover from any natural technological or human relatedemergency or disaster. Work functions include updating plans proceduresannexes and appendices for emergency preparedness response recovery andmitigation; assisting in the design development and coordination of emergencyplanning training and exercises for the Montgomery region; performingmiscellaneous technical and administrative duties; working collaboratively withfederal state and local agencies private organizations and County departmentsand agencies to coordinate the use and sharing of resources and equipmentwithin the community to assist in emergency response; maintaining the Local EmergencyPlanning Committee (LEPC) and working group; responding to actual emergencyincidents and disasters in the field and participates in the management ofthose incidents with other jurisdictions and assisting with the preparation andanalysis of damage assessments following disasters or emergencies. The EMAPlanning Officer reports to the EMA Deputy Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelorsdegree from an accredited university in Emergency Management PlanningBusiness/Public Administration or related field andthree (3) years of professional experience inemergency management public administration emergency response professional emergencyplanning or militarytraining in this field. Similarexperience in the field may be substituted for college training at a rate of oneyear of experience for one year of college.

NOTE:Qualifying education training and experience that provide therequisite knowledge skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Mustpossess a valid Alabama Drivers license with a good driving record or obtainby time of hire. Must be available for 24-houron-call duty requirements. Must be able to travel to visit off-site locations.
