Job Description

This position iscontingent on the successful application and implementation of the Auto Technology program for the 2026-2027 academic year.

POSITION PURPOSE: The Auto Technology (Mechanics) Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality hands-on instruction in automotive technology to students in a classroom and shop environment. This role involves developing and implementing a curriculum that aligns with current industry standards and certification requirements including ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) competencies. The instructor must ensure a safe organized and efficient shop environment while fostering student engagement professionalism and workplace readiness.

FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Exempt; Part-Time

REPORTS TO: High School Principal

EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisionsof Board policy GCN: Evaluation of Professional Staff.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors Degree or higher from an accredited college or university and 4000 hours of DESE-approved closely related occupational experience within the past ten years; or
  • Associates Degree from an accredited college or university and 5000 hours of DESE-approved closely related occupational experience within the past ten years; or
  • High school diploma with 6000 hours of DESE-approved closely related occupational experience within the past ten years.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Career & Technical Education Teaching Certificate from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Planning and Organization

  • Prepares effective and appropriate lesson plans and learning experiences consistent with district and state curriculum standards
  • Organizes the classroom and shop environment to ensure that students are actively engaged in learning
  • Communicates expectations to students
  • Incorporates community resources and industry partners in the learning process

Instruction and Learning

  • Provides instruction to students and connects content to the real-world experiences of the auto repair industry
  • Identifies the needs and abilities of students and adapts instructional methods accordingly
  • Guides student behavior in a positive and constructive manner
  • Uses various instructional strategies to enhance and motivate student learning
  • Understands the various developmental levels of students
  • Promotes responsible self-directed learners
  • Implements special educational plans such as 504 plans individual educational programs and individual health plans.
  • Prepares lesson plans for use by a substitute teacher

Assessment and Evaluation

  • Implements effective formative and summative assessment practices
  • Uses prior student performance to plan new learning opportunities
  • Maintains accurate student records including attendance grades and discipline
  • Provides students and parents with evaluative information
  • Seeks input from parents and students
  • Promotes the development of self-assessment skills

Student Orientation

  • Demonstrates a commitment to students social personal and academic success
  • Demonstrates a commitment to students health safety and welfare
  • Builds positive interpersonal relationships with students
  • Connects students to additional resources experiences and potential job placement opportunities
  • Encourages student compliance with district policies
  • Implements student discipline as directed by district policies

Professional Relationships

  • Communicates regularly with parents regarding progress and other educational concerns
  • Actively solicits engagement and support from the community and industry partners
  • Actively participates in a highly collaborative environment

Professional Responsibilities

  • Participates in scheduled events including orientations parent-teacher conferences and open houses
  • Participates in building grade-level and CTE committees
  • Participates in district professional development and industry-specific professional development to stay current with evolving automotive technologies
  • Participates as a member of an IEP team 504 team or other student assistance teams as requested
  • Follows district policies and procedures.
  • Reports suspected abuse neglect discrimination and harassment as directed by Board policy
  • Responds constructively to recommendations for improving the auto mechanics program
  • Maintains current knowledge of the auto mechanic industry and instructional methods
  • Demonstrates self-directed professional growth that should include self-assessment and reflection that is continually updated to impact students
  • Performs other duties as assigned by administrators

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine-month employee. Salary is dependent on education and experience.
