Job Summary

Primary Purpose:

To support the daily financial operations of the Head Start program and perform general adminstrative duties as a member of the programs administrative team.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED certificate some college preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) using proper English grammar
  • Ability to operate a calculator personal computer and other office equipment as required
  • Ability to work with numbers in a rapid and accurate manner
  • Ability to organize prioritize and meet established deadlines
  • Ability to maintain well-organized accurate auditable records

Experience

  • Three years bookkeeping training and/or experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Model HCDE and Head Starts mission vision and values.
  • Assist the director with accounting transactions and budget amendments including monitoring expenditures to ensure compliance with the Head Start budget.
  • Prepare and process payment authorizations for the Head Start division.
  • Monitor financial transactions for accuracy and report issues and concerns to the director as needed.
  • Perform data entry including but not limited to form requisitions printing requisitions and purchase orders.
  • Maintain thorough systematic physical and computerized records of financial transactions of the Head Start division.
  • Research and resolve all payment issues.
  • Prepare budget binder for monthly Policy Council meeting.
  • Serve as custodian of petty cash and maintain a Notary Public Commission.
  • Serve as backup to the Administrative Assistant.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
