of Job Duties:The Senior HVAC Controls Specialist serves as a senior-level technical expert in the maintenance programming integration and optimization of HVAC systems and complex building automation systems (BAS). This role provides advanced diagnostics system commissioning and project leadership to ensure optimal performance of HVAC and energy management systems campus-wide.

This position is responsible for programming direct digital control systems (DDC) integrating HVAC systems with third-party platforms and optimizing building performance through advanced analytics and software tools. The HVAC Mechanic III(or Senior HVAC Systems Tech) acts as a subject-matter expert (SME) providing training mentoring and guidance to junior staff and working directly with engineers consultants and IT specialists on capital projects and renovations.

Participation in the on-call rotation for emergencies and inclement weather responses is required.

Regular reliable and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty as is the ability to create and maintain collegial harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED

  • At least five years of experience in commercial or institutional HVAC systems with increasing responsibility in controls and systems integration

  • Valid drivers license

Applicable equivalencies may be considered on the above qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Class A or B HVAC license

  • Associate degree or higher in HVAC engineering technology building automation or related field from an accredited institution of higher education

  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification

  • Manufacturer-specific BAS certifications

  • Experience with HVAC networking protocols such as BACnet Modbus LonWorks N2 and TCP/IP

  • Experience leading complex HVAC projects or retro-commissioning efforts

  • Programming experience using graphical and script-based BAS interfaces

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to program configure and optimize DDC and BAS for campus-wide environmental control and energy management

  • Ability to perform advanced diagnostics on BAS communication failures network issues and sequence errors

  • Ability to analyze trend data to identify energy inefficiencies faults or runtime anomalies and recommend operational improvements

  • Ability to lead commissioning and retro-commissioning efforts verifying control sequences and system performance

  • Ability to serve as the lead technician for new system integrations and campus infrastructure upgrades

  • Ability to collaborate with engineers and contractors to review control system designs and sequences of operations for capital projects

  • Ability to use CMMS to track work orders diagnostics and time allocations

  • Lift up to 50 lbs. work at heights in tight spaces and in varying weather conditions

  • Basic Knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs including email and spreadsheets
