GENERAL DESCRIPTION:This position provides an opportunity to work with a high-performing small investment team overseeing approximately $12 billion in externally managed pension assets. The seven-person investment team has full investment discretion with internal approval from the Executive Director allowing for nimble action and decision making on investment opportunities. The portfolio has generated top decile returns over the past 1 2 5 7 and 10-year periods. Given the small size of the team each member of the investment staff has a meaningful opportunity to shape portfolio outcomes. While team members have a primary area of focus within one or more of the broad asset classes (Fixed Income Marketable Alternatives Private Equity and Public Equity) each individual also has the opportunity to provide insights and opinions across the entire portfolio. This particular position is expected to be primarily focused on the Public Equity and Core/Government Fixed Income asset classes.
This position is responsible for conducting investment research and analysis to execute the investment strategy objectives of assigned investment classes. It will primarily support the senior staff of the assigned asset class collaborate on special projects as requested by the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) and work with Investment Analysts. The role requires utilizing industry-standard software to research potential investments and monitor existing money managers. The Senior Investment Analyst is responsible for mentoring and training Investment Analysts and Interns.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.- Reads and evaluates reports from research companies to maintain knowledge of market trends and to gain insight into managers strategies.
- Conducts on-site investment manager visits with WRS Investment Officers and attends pertinent industry conferences.
- Assists the Senior Investment Team on annual manager review monitoring of investment performance and risk monitoring of the assigned asset class. Analyzes research on various managers and investment strategies.
- Develop detailed reports and presentations in response to ad hoc project requests required for executing the mission of the Investment Department.
- Assists in the development and compilation of WRS Board Meeting investment-related materials.
- Works with Investment Officers to conduct due diligence on existing and prospective managers of the system. Produces independent quantifiable recommendations supported by this research
- Provides guidance and assists in the training of Investment Analyst roles and Interns. Assists in the onboarding of new analysts and provides them with job tools and agency overview.

KNOWLEDGE:- Broad knowledge of investment instruments across all asset classes including a thorough understanding of financial markets concepts and principles.
- Knowledge of equity and fixed income security analysis and valuation techniques.
- General computer literacy including advanced Excel skills and proficiency in word processing and presentation software packages.

- Technical expertise for the assigned asset class.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education:
Bachelors Degree (typically in Finance Business or Economics)
Experience:
3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Finance Business or Economics) with the acquired knowledge of an Analyst
Certificates Licenses Registrations:
Passage of Level I of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Program and/or MBA (or Masters Degree in a related field of study)Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:- Office setting
- Some travel will be required for board meetings conferences and due diligence trips.
NOTES:- FLSA: Exempt
- Hiring will be contingent upon the successful passage of a background check.
- Statutory authority allows for a maximum monthly salary of up to $9300 per month for this position.
- This position is eligible for performance compensation (WY Stat) of up to 35% of base salary depending on total portfolio return relative to the benchmark.
- This position is At-Will and is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the CIO.
