Job Summary

Under the direction of professional nursing staff provides direct patient care including vital signs surgical dressing checks assistance with activities of daily living specimen collection and blood draws. Observes and communicates patient status identifies needs and ensures a safe and supportive care environment. Serves as an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care including feeding bathing dressing toileting transferring and monitoring vital signs.

  • Assist with admissions transfers and discharges of patients.

  • Promote patient safety fall prevention and maintain a clean care environment.

  • Perform blood glucose monitoring catheter care wound care and collect laboratory specimens.

  • Assist with orthopedic/rehab devices and apply compression wraps/stockings.

  • Participate in hourly rounding respond to patient alarms and provide comfort care.

  • Monitor dietary intake fluid output and document weight and calorie counts.

  • Collaborate with the healthcare team reporting patient changes and supporting care plans.

  • Provide post-mortem care when required.

  • Comply with patient safety standards and report safety risks near misses or adverse events.

  • Support efficient patient flow and reduce delays in care.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Current Maryland state certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA).

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

  • No prior experience required; healthcare facility experience preferred.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a healthcare team.

  • Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks in stressful situations.

  • Ability to use computer systems for documentation.

  • Proficiency in blood glucose testing and proper documentation.

  • Competence in performing delegated nursing tasks while respecting patients age culture and individual needs.
