Description

TheEngineering and Industrial Professions Department at the University of North Alabama ( invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level in Engineering Technology with primary teaching responsibilities in the Occupational & Environmental Health and Safety (OEHS) concentration. The appointment begins in Fall 2026. Review of applications will begin on November 3 2025 and will continue until the position is filled.

The BSET-OEHS concentration is designated as a Qualified Academic Program (QAP) by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals and supported by a NIOSH Training Project Grant. The successful candidate will teach OEHS courses (e.g. occupational safety ergonomics industrial hygiene physical agents hazardous materials environmental regulations) advise students engage in scholarly activity and contribute to ABET accreditation and industry partnerships.

Essential Job Duties

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Teach courses in the OEHS concentration related to (but not limited to) ergonomics safety/environmental regulations physical agents hazardous materials and industrial hygiene;
  • Develop new courses and applied learning experiences as program needs evolve;
  • Maintain and enhance laboratory facilities associated with OEHS;
  • Recruit advise and mentor students in Engineering Technology;
  • Engage in scholarly activity related to occupational and environmental health and safety;
  • Participate in university college department and professional service;
  • Support the departments ongoing ABET accreditation processes;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with regional industries to support applied learning and workforce development.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students faculty staff administration and industry partners in written verbal and interpersonal forms;
  • Experience working with a diverse population of students faculty staff and external stakeholders;
  • Strong oral written and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Desire and ability to teach a varied and evolving curriculum;
  • Ability to plan and perform hands-on development of laboratory equipment and exercises.

Minimum Qualifications

A PhD in Industrial Hygiene Environmental Health Safety Sciences/Safety Engineering Environmental/Industrial Engineering or a closely related discipline is required; a minimum of five years of industry experience in occupational and environmental health and safety is required; and relevant professional certifications (CIH CSP CHMM) are preferred.
