Job Description

The University of Nevada Reno Extension is recruiting for a full-time 12-month Extension Educator for its Lincoln County Nevada location. The candidate for this position will reside in the county area preferably the town of Caliente Nevada.

As a cornerstone of community engagement and education the Extension Educator plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between academic research and practical application. This position is integral in disseminating valuable knowledge and resources to the diverse communities throughout the County fostering growth sustainability and innovation. The Lincoln County Extension Educator collaborates with local government and various organizations to deliver non-formal educational programs that address pressing community needs from agriculture and environmental stewardship to health nutrition and youth development.The Extension Educator works both in the office and in the field providing flexibility in the work environment.

Additional roles and responsibilities include creating appropriate research scholarly and/or creative works. This can be done using a variety of methods (e.g. peer-reviewed extension or journal publications presentations at professional meetings and/or use of electronic media for program delivery etc.). Educators also provide subject matter expertise to colleagues inExtension and/or the University of Nevada Reno. They have University support to develop resources (e.g. grants gifts budget enhancements) as needed to address their efforts with identified needs. Educators could provide professional development to peers internal and external collaborators and benefit from professional development for themselves. Extension Educators are expected to maintain professionalism with all internal and external audiences ensuring initiative-taking communication.

This position will also manage the Lincoln County Extension office and related resources provide oversight of the county 4-H staff and program and serve as the local university liaison with county government. While the focus of this position is educational programming in Lincoln County Extension faculty are also available to provide their expertise throughout Nevada as situations warrant and time permits. The typical role statement for Extension Educators is 70% teaching 25% scholarship research and/or creativity activity; and 5% service (community college university and professional). This position requires a commitment to work effectively with diverse cultural and community interests and to develop and maintain solid working relationships within the community.

Required Qualification
Lecturer II - Masters degree in one of the following broad fields: Agriculture Youth and Family Development Rural Sociology or other related degree programs.

Teaching Assistant Professor - PhD in one of the following broad fields: Agriculture Youth and Family Development Rural Sociology or other related degree programs.

Travel and Schedule Requirements

  • Work a flexible schedule with periodic evening and weekend work.

  • Work alone for extended periods and interact collegially with small and large teams.

  • Periodically travel throughout the state to assist with multi-county or statewide efforts related to subject matter expertise or attend area and state-wide Extension meetings.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in collaboration with the county government in budgeting program development and evaluation.

  • Experience in youth development leadership relevant (similar) to oversight of a 4-H program.

  • Experience in community education program development and community partnerships.

  • Experience in needs assessment program evaluation and conducting statistical analysis to improve program development.

  • Experience with fund development (grants donations other) to support programs.

  • Experience in agriculture business diversification and marketing.
