Assistant Maintenance Superintendent - 2nd Shift

Position Summary
Indiana Packers Corporation (IPC) is seeking an Assistant Superintendent at our Delphi facility to lead our 2nd shift maintenance team. Reporting directly to the Maintenance Superintendent this position is responsible for supervising 1st Line Managers and Line Leaders in a meat processing environment and ensuring established daily production and quality targets are achieved. The Assistant Superintendent will utilize their skill experience and decision-making ability to ensure product through the department meets company customer and government specifications.
This position will take responsibility for ensuring training effectiveness within the department to support targets while maintaining compliance with good manufacturing processes (GMPs) and workplace safety expectations.
Core Responsibilities:
- Safety Leadership: Drive a culture of process safety excellence with a strong emphasis on incident and accident prevention.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify and address potential hazards.
- Coordinate daily maintenance activities and assign tasks to team members.
- Monitor the progress and efficiency of maintenance tasks and provide guidance as needed.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules and SOPs to ensure equipment reliability and longevity.
- Coordinate and oversee repairs installations and maintenance projects.
- Ensure that all maintenance work is completed efficiently on time and within budget.
- Assist in managing the inventory of maintenance supplies tools and equipment and order as needed.
- Ensure that all maintenance equipment is properly maintained and in good working condition.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities including work orders equipment maintenance logs and safety inspections.
- Prepare and submit reports on maintenance activities costs and performance metrics.
- Participate in meetings and provide input on maintenance-related issues.
- Maintain team member compliance of company policies safety and quality standards and good housekeeping through the application of fair and consistent accountability methods.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in engineering facilities management or a related field is preferred. High School diploma will be considered for those with additional 7 years of experience as a maintenance supervisor in a heavy industrial / manufacturing environment.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of management experience in maintenance.
- Should have experience working in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment and equipment preferably experience working with processing equipment.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency in maintenance management software and tools particularly SAP.
- Good understanding of mechanical electrical and plumbing systems.
- All employees are expected to adhere to their scheduled working hours and attend work consistently to ensure smooth operations and effective teamwork.
- Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft office products along with the ability to learn and utilize enterprise software and database reporting tools.
- Ability to work independently and identify solutions with very little supervision.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to read write and speak English to communicate effectively with supervisors co-workers and cross functional teams.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and resourceful in accomplishing tasks and deadlines.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions on the site including exposure to fumes or airborne particles moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud and hearing protection is required. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in cold hot and outdoor conditions that include inclement weather heat and humidity and exposure to dust.
Physical Demand:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The position lifts heavy objects walks and stands for long periods of time under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts pushes pulls or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support without fatigue. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand hand with arms and fingers two hands) and multi-limb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have excellent stamina and vision.
