Offer description:

The position is that of the main senior postdoctoral researcher position in our new ERC-POC (proof-of-concept) grant SENSOR (Making sense of reference 2025-2027 funded by the European Research Council 2025-2027). Our aim is to illuminate the processing of two dimensions of meaning (lexical-conceptual meaning and reference as mediated by grammar) in neurotypicals and individuals with schizophrenia. The overarching goal is to enhance our understanding of the role of language in schizophrenia and the mechanistic basis of language dysfunction in this disorder in the context of a larger ERC synergy grant dedicated to study language processing in psychosis longitudinally with fMRI.

The POC grant is a collaboration with Prof. Peter Uhlhaas (Charité Berlin) and Prof. Joachim Gross (Münster University). The successful candidate will be hired/employed at Universitat Pompeu Fabra Barcelona (Grammar & Cognition lab) but play a leading role in our collaboration with Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin where data collection will take place. Tasks:

The postdoc will:

  • Develop an experimental paradigm for naturalistic story comprehension with OPM-MEG.

  • Coordinate the data collection process.

  • Analyse linguistic and OPM-MEG data.

  • Creatively develop the project further through theoretical concepts methodological tools and analytical pipelines.

  • Coordinate closely between teams of the project. Help to establish and co-lead an interdisciplinary team of other researchers in the work package.

  • Be lead author on high-level publications.



  • Ph.D. in hand with substantial research experience and publications in a relevant field of cognitive or computational neuroscience.

  • Experience with EEG and/or MEG data acquisition and analysis.

  • Research interests in language and psychiatry.

  • Competence in computational linguistics is highly desirable.
