Visy is powering the circular economy closing the loop between packaging remanufacturing and recycling. As Australias leading recycled and kraft paper manufacturer Visy Pulp and Paper is a big part of our business. Our integrated recycling and manufacturing operations means we collect paper and cardboard from households and businesses and turn it into up to 100% recycled paper. We are also home to the worlds most environmentally friendly kraft paper mill in Tumut providing high-quality kraft paper for domestic and international markets. The paper we produce supplies our board facilities across Australia and New Zealand where it is remanufactured into cardboard packaging for the food and beverage industry.
Role Details
Reporting to the Senior Process Engineer and working closely with the production team the Process Engineer (Chemicals) will be responsible for the maximization of production quality uptime and speed through chemical engineering processes. Your key objectives for this role will be to ensure a high-quality paper product and minimise chemical downtime in our paper mill located in Smithfield NSW.
What youll do
Uphold Visy safety standards at all times ensuring compliance with procedures and identifying and addressing hazards to ensure safe mill operations
Daily monitoring and management of chemicals and chemical levels including inventory of consumables and equipment in the mill
Manage chemical budgets and related KPIs including raising purchase orders when required
Troubleshoot chemical dosing systems and arrange resources for maintenance
Providing technical assistance and optimising dosing systems to achieve performance and efficiency
Conduct regular and random testing of paper to meet quality requirements stay up to date with the latest chemical data and update theSDS
Work closely with production sourcing chemicals and providing support during regular maintenance and major shutdowns including when rostered on-call
Manage relationships with chemical suppliers to understand the chemicals used and chemical dosing systems
Ensure compliance with safe chemical usage storage and handling as per applicable standards (including Australian standards and site standards)
What You Will Bring
Bachelors in chemical engineering or science equivalent
0 - 5 years post-grad experience or recent graduate with internship experience in a FMCG manufacturing paper & pulp mill heavy industrial or oil and gas environment (preferred)
Ability to optimise chemical usage and cost control
Experience in testing and process monitoring chemical systems in a manufacturing setting
Ability to analyse troubleshoot and problem solve chemical systems
High level communication skills and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment
Collaborative flexible and team focused with a continuous improvement mindset
Highly organised and strong planning skills
