Job Summary

The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Iowa is seeking a Research Assistant to join the laboratory of Dr. Peg Nopoulos studying cognitive and neural function in children adolescents and young adults at risk for Huntingtons Disease. The Research Assistant will support clinical research by managing data (including neuropsychological physiological and neuroimaging measures) assisting with functional neuroimaging analysis and working with investigators staff and students as a member of an interdisciplinary team.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in the investigation of brain and behavior changes in Huntingtons Disease through imaging studies.
Organize and characterize multi-dimensional data using programming software such as Python or MATLAB.
Run statistical analyses to evaluate behavior (cognitive tasks behavior ratings and motor skills) genetics (gene expansion) and brain function (resting state functional connectivity brain morphometry) and how they are related to brain structure and function.
Produce regular reports on data quality.
Investigate and implement means to ensure quality and validity of data collected at numerous sites across extended periods of time.
Track and enter data for NIH-funded studies and utilize statistical software to assist in the preparation of material for inclusion in reports publications and presentations.
Review compliance with protocol organize and maintain study records and files in conjunction with other research staff.
Coordinate data handling and management with private and academic institution
Participate actively and present work in lab meetings.
Establish and maintain standards of collaborative interaction among peers and employees that is characterized by respect honesty and service.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Bachelors of Arts/Science degree in Psychology Mathematics Engineering Computer Science or a biomedical related field.
Minimum of 1 year of experience with one of the following coding platforms
oPython
oMATLAB
oR
Minimum of 1 year of behavioral and/or medical research experience.
Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
Experience with Microsoft Office.
Ability to work independently while being accountable and efficient with time management.

Desirable Qualifications
Experience with shell coding (e.g. bash turbo c shell etc.)
Experience working with brain MRI data.
Experience with Analysis of Functional Neuroimaging (AFNI) software.
Knowledge of linear and/or non-linear mixed effects model analyses.
Ability to produce journal-ready figures.
