Following the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) Best Practice Guidelines for School Psychology Internships (June 2009) RCPS offers a year-long over 1200 hour internship opportunity for candidates who are nearing completion of a recognized graduate program in school psychology.
School psychology interns will be offered the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to apply their training and to develop skills related to school psychology service delivery under the supervision of staff school psychologists.
Areas of possible experience through this internship include
- Participation is multi-disciplinary school based teams
- Consulting with RtI teams and assisting with the development of appropriate intervention strategies and progress monitoring of struggling students
- Administering and interpreting psychological assessments for diagnostic and disability identification purposes
- Providing mental health support through individual and group counseling programs
- Providing consultation to parents and school staff
- Supporting students families and school staff during crisis situations
- Promoting safe learning environments by participating on Crisis and Treat Assessment Teams
- Fostering relationships with student focused community agencies
- Participating in departmental meetings and projects
- Attending as well as developing and presenting professional development programs
Candidates must be nearing completion of a recognized graduate program in school psychology.
NOTE: This intern position does not include any benefits (medical dental vision or retirement) and is paid at a flat rate of $25000.00 for the year evenly distributed in 20 equal installments beginning at the end of August and continuing through mid-June.
