Faculty in the School of Community Studies at Bow Valley College are responsible for providing instruction to learners evaluating learner progress designing and developing curriculum and instructional materials and supporting learners in achieving the learning outcomes of their courses and programs. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to effective teaching and the ability to instruct courses within the field of Early Childhood Education and Development. This includes teaching in various formats such as face-to-face online blended delivery and workplace settings.


The faculty member will provide quality instruction in assigned courses by selecting instructional strategies that meet learner needs creating detailed lesson plans developing and updating curriculum guides and rubrics as requested by the Program Chair. They will evaluate learner performance on an ongoing basis provide progress reports to learners and administrators and maintain official records as required.


Faculty will also create a positive learning experience for learners by meeting with students regarding academic issues including attendance conduct and performance. They will identify areas of concern and refer them to the Program Chair when follow-up is necessary connect learners to other institutional supports such as tutoring or counseling ensure that any special student accommodations are met support the program in awarding scholarships and bursaries and participate in college and departmental events such as orientation and graduation.

In addition faculty members are expected to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders while promoting the department and the college. This includes staying current with best practices adapting curriculum as required assisting with articulation and transfer activities for learners meeting with industry stakeholders and participating in Advisory Committees attending external community meetings participating in recruitment events as schedules permit and maintaining networking relationships with employers government agencies and community partners.


This position requires skills in mentorship instructional techniques classroom management communication interpersonal relations curriculum development and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite D2L and Unit4.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field at least two years of related experience valid membership with the Association of Early Childhood Educators of Alberta (AECEA) and a Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector search. Equivalent combinations of directly related education and experience may also be considered. Preferred qualifications include a Masters degree in ECE or a related field (in progress or completed) at least four years of related experience ability to work to full scope of practice teaching experience in other settings curriculum development and field experience and a strong understanding of the role of an Early Childhood Educator.


Required certifications and licenses include a Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector search and AECEA membership. While a drivers license Alberta Teaching Certificate CLPNA CARNA or the ability to travel are not mandatory they may be considered assets.


This opening is a continuous full-time position. Please note all successful candidates will be required to provide copies of government issued identification and proof of educational qualifications upon hire and may be required to provide an enhanced police information check.
