About us

The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention preparedness and response services to fire in the built and landscape environments as well as scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities. The QFD provides a multi-hazard emergency response including road crash rescue bushfire hazardous material technical and vertical rescue severe weather incidents remote and swiftwater rescue and provides a number of functions supporting community safety outcomes.

The department encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR) Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ) as well as the broader department which work together to pre-empt prevent mitigate and manage the consequences of fires and other emergencies on Queensland communities and support our large volunteer membership across the state.

The QFD is an organisation that is committed to reframing the departments relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples communities and organisations through activities identified in the QFD Reframing the Relationship Plan contributing to Closing the Gap outcomes and building our cultural capability.

Purpose of role

Technology Infrastructure Services is responsible for leading the information technology operational platforms and ensuring the performance and efficiency of network systems and infrastructure data centrescloud compute and storage capabilities to serve critical business functions.

Reporting to the Executive Manager you will have strong knowledge of IT systems and expertise in data analysis problem-solving and project management. You will track system performance metrics and create reports to identify areas of concern or improvement. The role involves working with multiple departments and stakeholders to understand their needs and challenges and provide recommendations on how to optimise systems to meet those needs.

Key requirements

Highly desirable requirements

  • Technical experience in a large complex ICT environment would be desirable.
  • Proven experience in performance analysis capacity planning and system optimisation.
  • Certification in ITIL or project management.
  • Contemporary knowledge of Agile and waterfall project management methodologies.

Your key accountabilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department in supporting key frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work including but not limited to:

  • Monitor IT systems and applications analyse performance data to identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement and create and maintain performance dashboards and reports.
  • Assess current and future capacity needs develop and maintain capacity plans to ensure adequate resources and implement strategies to optimize resource usage and prevent over-provisioning.
  • Optimise systems and applications collaborate with development teams to implement performance improvements and perform root cause analysis of performance issues to provide solutions.
  • Prepare regular performance and capacity reports document performance baselines and trends and maintain records of capacity plans and performance tuning activities.
  • Implement and manage performance monitoring tools ensure accurate configuration and stay updated with the latest technologies.
  • Troubleshoot performance incidents collaborate with teams to resolve issues and participate in post-incident reviews to enhance future performance.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for improving performance and capacity management stay updated on best practices and trends and enhance system efficiency
  • Manage system performance capacity and compliance through regular risk assessments audits and mitigation.
