About Organization
The Security Engineering & Operations Department is seeking an experienced Senior Data Governance Manager to establish implement and mature our enterprise-wide data governance program. This critical role will be responsible for defining and enforcing policies standards and processes across all data assets with a significant emphasis on data used by and accessible to AI agents. The successful candidate will ensure data quality security privacy and compliance fostering a data-driven culture that supports both operational excellence and ethical AI innovation. You will be instrumental in safeguarding our data assets mitigating risks associated with AI data use and enabling trustworthy AI development.
Job duties
Develop evangelize and implement a comprehensive enterprise data governance strategy policies and standards ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
Establish and mature the data governance operating model including roles responsibilities (e.g. data owners data stewards) and decision-making processes.
Lead monthly data governance forums with external stakeholders to ensure appropriate considerations and decisions around data processing agreements (DPAs) and Data Sharing Agreements (DSAs) are appropriately managed
Proactively communicate and manage any risks and KPIs associated with data governance lifecycle
Define specific governance policies for data used in AI/ML model development training validation and deployment addressing unique challenges like bias fairness and explain ability.
Lead decision maker around tooling and software to complement and enhance/streamline existing data governance processes
Work closely with external stakeholders (e.g. Legal Privacy AI Platform Team Compliance & Risk) to ensure proactive approach to data governance
Oversee the governance of data throughout the entire AI lifecycle from data acquisition and ingestion to preparation feature engineering model training monitoring and archival.
Implement controls and processes to ensure the integrity provenance and appropriate use of datasets consumed by AI agents preventing unintended data exposure or misuse.
Establish processes for data quality assessment issue identification remediation and continuous improvement for all data assets particularly those feeding AI systems.
Minimum Qualification
10 years of progressive experience in data governance data management data quality or related fields with at least 3-5 years in a senior or leadership capacity.
Experience managing a team of data governance specialists
Experience budgeting and making financial decisions based on risk management principles
Proven track record of developing and implementing enterprise-wide data governance frameworks and policies.
Strong understanding of data quality metadata management and data security principles.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Preferred Qualification
Deep understanding of data governance principles industry best practices and frameworks (e.g. DAMA DMBOK).
Strong knowledge of global data privacy regulations (e.g. GDPR CCPA LGPD) and emerging AI regulations (e.g. EU AI Act NIST AI RMF Secrecy of Communication Act).
Familiarity and experience with public cloud data governance tools (e.g. Dataplex Collibra Azure Purview AWS Glue Data Catalog)
Demonstrable experience specifically governing data for AI/Machine Learning initiatives understanding the unique data challenges and risks in AI development.
Familiarity with AI/ML concepts data science workflows model lifecycle and the types of data (structured unstructured synthetic) used in AI applications.
Excellent communication presentation and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build consensus across diverse stakeholder groups.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen eye for detail.
Ability to translate complex technical and regulatory requirements into clear actionable policies and processes.
Relevant Certifications in Data Management/Privacy or related field (e.g. CIPP CDMP IGP)
Japanese language proficiency is beneficial but not required for this role.
