About this Role
In this hands-on role the Equipment Accountant processes accounts payable in a timely and accurate manner as well as performing the general accounting functions related to the usage rental and maintenance of heavy equipment and purchases of smaller equipment within the organization for use on various construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Stamp code verify post and pay invoices in line with company policies maintaining accurate records; includes equipment leasing and fuel purchases.
- Enter and match Accounts Payable invoices including those specifically related to equipment.
- Prepare monthly vendor reconciliations investigating and resolving discrepancies.
- Reconcile and process supplier and third-party payments including construction equipment on both monthly and ad-hoc schedules.
- Prepare expense reports on construction equipment for Accounting Manager review.
- Download review correct and upload fuel transactions into the ERP system.
- Record journal entries related to construction equipment.
- Review monthly equipment postings and prepare reconciliation reports for financial packages.
- Prepare monthly reports for Equipment Manager review.
- Process equipment usage and repair cost transactions through to job costs and equipment subledgers.
- Review and reconcile intercompany GLs prior to issuing invoices to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Process EFT payment runs for TCL and other companies as required.
- All other duties as required.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Post-secondary education in accounting or equivalent experience.
- 4 years of relevant experience; equipment accounting or construction industry experience is an asset.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to meet deadlines and follow standard processes consistently.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other business software.
- Experience with ERP or complex accounting systems is an asset.
- Professional diplomatic and able to maintain confidentiality.
Physical/Sensory Effort and Work Environment
- Providing service to several groups and stakeholders working under many simultaneous deadlines.
- Sitting for long periods of time at workstation.
- Focus and concentration on repetitive tasks is required.
- Manual dexterity is required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
