SUMMARY
New York Edge is seeking a passionate knowledgeable and mission-oriented individual to fill the role of Family Development Coach (FDC) in our High School Youth: Educational Support program area. The FDC will develop a partnership between student participants and their families and include helping participants set reachable goals for their own self-reliance methods for achieving them and providing or facilitating access to services needed to reach these goals offering encouragement and exploring challenges and opportunities to identify solutions for themselves. The power of the relationship exists between the participant and the FDC and will be built on mutual respect and trust. The FDC will focus on changing behaviors rather than fixing problems and will support participants in identifying and developing their strengths. The FDC will coordinate services and ensure that they are aligned and integrated with participants needs and goals.

PROGRAMMATIC OVERSIGHT
Maintain an emotionally and physically safe environment for youth that meets all compliance and safety requirements set forth by the organization DOE DOH funders and applicable labor law.
Identify needs of the targeted students apply interventions and track and monitor input and impact of interventions for weekly meetings about student progress.
Monitor and track daily weekly and monthly attendance and follow-up with family as needed to ensure continuous engagement and attendance.
Identify high need students coordinate with teachers to target interventions and track and monitor impact of interventions.
Facilitate alliances and partnerships with City agencies and non-profit partners to establish a continuum of services for students.
Support New York Edge school and partner agencies with resource management and development including fund development and grant maintenance.
Support the coordination of space for student and family support services and for special events.
Support program activities including but not limited to expanded learning time parent family and community engagement and mental health.
Participate in school team meetings and specialized meetings such as attendance meetings.
Facilitate the process to gain additional resources.
RELATIONSHIP AND PARTNERSHIP MANAGEMENT
Provide holistic assessment creation and implementation of a Family Development Plan (FDP) that outlines participants strengths and self-defined goals specific steps to take to achieve goals available supports and resources needed and a realistic timeline to meet the goals.
Regularly review the FDP to assess whether goals have been met or need to be adjusted mid-course
Provide follow-up to ensure that the participants have received requested services.
Cultivate and forge positive relationships with Principal Assistant Principals teachers parents and parent coordinators and other key constituents in the community to engage their support in ensuring programmatic quality for the youth we serve.
Help broker new partnerships aligned with student goals and needs.
Collaborate with all program partners on program delivery to align with the goals in relation to student achievement and performance.
Establish parent involvement in areas of advocacy special events daily operations education and trips.
Identify and utilize community resources including other schools libraries community and local government agencies.
Work effectively with internship sites.
Conduct outreach to students and families.
Keep supervisor informed of pertinent site information including any challenges in fulfilling responsibilities
Seek input from teachers school staff parents and students to determine student and family needs.
Build relationships and mechanisms to link school day to extended day learning opportunities for targeted cohort.
Participate in data collection reporting and analysis.
OPERATIONS
Ensure the Program is compliant with DOE regulations timelines and staying abreast of all local state and federal pandemic management conditions and requirements.
Monitor and ensure all program compliance including but not limited to student enrollment attendance tracking and online virtual learning.
Ensure that student attendance information is being properly collected and delivered to the Data Department on a weekly basis.
Maintain accurate records (i.e. staff files program flyers materials schedule and curriculum).
Report site injuries via appropriate forms and immediately communicate incidents with school and New York Edge personnel.
Assist Program Manager in ensuring budgetary compliance and with submission of any required documents or reports to funding sources.
Track and care for all equipment and supplies used by program participants and staff.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Reliable organized and punctual
Demonstrated experience working with NYC youth families teachers and community members of diverse backgrounds within a positive youth development framework
Solid understanding of New York City and New York State education requirements in an urban setting
Strong leader and team-builder
Ability to resolve conflicts and negotiate solutions
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with program staff and school partners
Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills with proven ability to interact with a diverse range of individuals both in person virtually and over the phone applying tact and discretion as situations demand
Must have excellent organizational time management and follow-up skills
Must be able to clearly articulate outcome requirements and provide the necessary and appropriate resources and support to successfully deliver on objectives
Responsible and professional conduct that serves as role model to staff and youth
Exhibit strong character traits and exercise patience and creativity while seeking win-win scenarios
Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
Must demonstrate ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
Experienced with E-learning and Virtual Learning
Proficiency in Google Suite Microsoft Excel Outlook and Word
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors degree required with preference in Education Psychology or Social Work
Must have passion for New York Edge mission and demonstrated interest in the field of education and youth development
Prior work experience in urban education
Experience in using appropriate resources and working with NYC systems such as public assistance child welfare education and housing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students families and school partners including school administration and staff
Must be available for all hours of the program on a daily basis
Bilingual: Fluent in Spanish highly preferred
Family Development Coach certification within one year of hiring
Family Development Coach will be required to report to the school building and interact with staff students parents and school administration.
At time of offer and acceptance the job requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health.
