Join the MercyOne Genesis Family! We are looking to hire a Lab Technician!
As a Lab Technician at MercyOne Genesis you will:
- Be proficient in the procurement of blood samples via venous and capillary techniques frompatients ranging in age from infant to geriatric.
- Utilize use of the Laboratory Information Systemfor activating ordering and resulting laboratory orders from providers and to result laboratorytests.
- Educate patients in the proper collection of specimens such as urine stool and sputum.
- Review orders from providers maintaining accuracy in ordering tests; occasionally must callproviders offices to obtain orders.
- Process specimens in the appropriate way includinglooking up specimen requirements centrifuging and separating as necessary and storing at theappropriate temperature to maintain sample integrity and testing acceptability.
- Ready specimens for transfer to reference laboratories including completing the required paperworkfor transfer and ensuring STAT specimens are processed and transported in a timely mannerincluding calling a STAT courier and completing the necessary paperwork for the transfer.
- Perform both waived and moderately complex CLIA testing in hematology urinalysis andserology areas under the guidance and supervision of an MLT or MT.
- Keep accurate recordssuch as temperature monitoring quality control for all laboratory testing and daily weekly andmonthly maintenance.
General Requirements:
- Less than 1 year experience required
- Medical Assistant or Certified Phlebotomist preferred
Education:
- High school plus additional course work up to 1 year
