Job Description
Job Title: Occupational Therapist East Valley School District 0.5 FTE
Reports to: Building Principal and Director of Special Programs
Work Schedule:4.5 hours per day 184 days per year this position will begin as soon as possible for the 2025/2026 school year.
Salary: East Valley Certificated Salary Schedule $28903.50 - $58214.50 depending on placement per degree credits and experience.

Job Summary:
Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Special Education or designee the Occupational Therapist will provide specially designed instruction and related services. The Occupational Therapist will collaborate with families and educational team members to develop appropriate education programs and advise on health related concerns as they impact education for students with special needs. The program goal is to help students to function as independently as possible within the least restrictive environment. This position requires working with children with various ages and a variety of disabilities (preschool to 12th grade). Position requires being an itinerant and traveling to different schools within the district.
Essential Job Functions:
This list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending
upon individual assignment the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following
duties:
- The Occupational Therapist will provide therapy/instruction to identified special education students and will document progress through data collection on goals services needs and attendance.
- Design and implement treatment programs to include direct and indirect therapy and consultation with school staff parents and outside agencies as appropriate on adaptations needed to facilitate improved performance in the classroom/school.
- Equipment procurement and management appropriate within the school environment.
- Screen and evaluate children using appropriate instruments administer tests complete observations and written reports which state the findings and collaborate on the childs educational plans in accordance with Washington Administrative Codes (WACs).
- Participate as a member of the Special Education team and the individualized education program team to contribute evaluation findings and collaborate on the childs educational plan.
- Maintain appropriate data on students to document and determine current levels of performance progress and effectiveness of therapy.
- Serve as a liaison with other school districts or institutions.
- Modify equipment consult with equipment vendors and provide staff training in working with equipment and handling safe transfers.
- Work cooperatively to accomplish the goals of the Local Education Agency (LEA).
- Adhere to the ethical standard and codes of the profession and to the established rules regulations and laws governing special education programs and occupational therapy services.
- Carry out paperwork reporting systems efficiently and on time.
- De-escalation Training: Be trained meet certification and maintain a high level of competence in restraint and de-escalation techniques determined by the district to minimize possible injury to students self or other staff members.
- Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
- The employee shall maintain a consistent presence at the assigned work site(s) and work the regular work hours specified by the contract.
- Professionally interact with colleagues members of the public and students.
- Comply with and uphold all district policies and all applicable laws.
- Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate certificate with Occupational Therapist endorsement
- Possess degree in Occupational Therapy
- Possess National Certification (NBCOT)
- Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance.
- Valid Washington State drivers license or evidence of mobility.
- Proof of Immunization (if born 1/1/57 or later).
- I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act.
- Completion of all district-required trainings within thirty (30) calendar days from hire date.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while
performing the essential functions of this job. The employee may be required to deal with distraught and/
or angry persons and may be exposed to infectious diseases carried by children. The noise level in the
work environment is acceptable to this particular environment and can vary depending upon daily activity
but will remain within acceptable ranges.
Evaluation:
The Occupational Therapist shall be evaluated per the Director of Special Programs.
