Xcel Energy is seeking candidates to support the Northern Power Company (NSP) Resource Planning team in our Integrated System Planning organization in Minneapolis MN. The paid internship provides an opportunity to showcase your analytical ability to support various resource planning workstreams in our five-state Upper Midwest service territory. The program provides practical work experience to develop your existing skillset present to leadership and collaborate with key internal stakeholders. The intern will be relied upon to play a role in achieving resource planning objectives and goals. The program will allow you to apply what youve learned in school and further enhance your knowledge through hands-on training and provide opportunities to network and learn with other interns across the Integrated System Planning organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Participate in the weekly meetings to track various resource planning workstreams
Contribute to the development of the next NSP resource expansion plan. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
working with internal stakeholders to gather input assumptions for modeling;
preparing presentation materials for external stakeholder engagement;
conducting research on various MISO workshops on resource accreditation planning reserve margin and other relevant topics;
conducting research on cost assumptions for various generation types and emerging technologies;
performing data analytical work to support strategic decisions on generation asset retirement extension and expansion;
Contribute to executing Request for Proposals to solicit new long-term capacity and energy resources. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Working with internal subject matter experts to evaluate bids using financial economic environmental and other criteria;
Gathering bid information to support modeling effort;
Preparing presentation materials for executive approval.
This position is for a June 1 2026 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internships initial term based on the candidates successful performance and Xcel Energys business needs.
Minimum Requirements:
Current student current in Graduate School
Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in engineering finance economics operations research mathematics business data analytics
Able to commute to the corporate office in Minneapolis MN
Able to work full-time during the summer up to 40 hours a week/ part time during the spring up to 20 hours a week.
Preferred Qualifications:
3.0 GPA (out of a 4.0 scale) or higher
Completed 1 year of graduate coursework
Experience or Proficiency with data analytics tools.
