Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE

Are you passionate about supporting youth in our community Youth Street Outreach is looking for compassionate dedicated Youth Outreach Workers to join our team. We work with youth ages 1325 to strengthen safety well-being and self-sufficiency through trauma-informed holistic services.

In addition to outreach our team provides Mobile Crisis Response supporting youth in crisis situations across Kamloops. We help address risk factors such as substance use mental health challenges involvement with the justice system sexual exploitation gang involvement and housing insecurity.

This program improves the lives of young people by offering proactive community-based support. We meet youth where they are and ensure that our drop-in centre and services are welcoming and accessible to all.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide outreach and case management using client centered non-judgmental and trauma-informed practices
  • Offer advocacy and system navigation support including facilitated referrals
  • Help youth access safe stable and culturally appropriate housing
  • Support youth in developing life skills and reducing vulnerability
  • Assist youth in building and sustaining positive relationships with family and natural supports
  • Provide harm reduction services including education and distribution of supplies Naloxone kits and safer sex supplies
  • Maintain accurate documentation and participate in team meetings and training
  • Collaborate with community partners and participate in community meetings and events

SKILLS KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES

Demonstrated knowledge and strong abilities to:

  • Build healthy trusting relationships with youth families colleagues and community professionals
  • Apply trauma-informed culturally safe and harm-reduction approaches when supporting youth
  • Respond effectively to challenging behaviours aggression and crisis situations
  • Support youth with substance use mental health and emotional regulation challenges including providing information and referrals to community resources
  • Conduct assessments and implement intervention strategies that promote positive change
  • Manage conflict using mediation and facilitation methods
  • Apply strong critical thinking and sound judgment while following policies and procedures
  • Maintain clear accurate and timely written documentation
  • Organize workload and priorities effectively in a dynamic fast-paced environment


REQUIREMENTS

  • A valid BC Class 5 Drivers License and a safe driving record
  • Own reliable vehicle
  • Business Use Insurance with $5 Million liability may be needed based on the frequency of personal vehicle use. (reimbursement is provided).
  • Consent to Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search
  • This position requires Union membership and union dues are deducted from each pay.
  • Following training is required and provided to the successful candidate free of charge. Existing certification is an asset: Emergency First Aid with CPR-C Mandt (RCT) Naloxone SafeTALK Privacy and Information Sharing Anti-Bullying and Harassment.
  • Physical requirements of the job include traveling within the city either as the driver or the passenger of a vehicle walking and standing for the majority of the day being exposed to various weather conditions while working outdoors.

HOURS of WORK: 37.5 hours per week

SCHEDULE: Tuesday to Saturday 3 PM - 11 PM - Schedules are subject to change depending on operational needs.

REPORTS TO: Youth Outreach Program Coordinator

COMPENSATION: $29.17 - $33.49 per hour (Grid 12 as per collective agreement)
