Salary: $20/hour


Reports To: Program Director

Organization Summary

East Side House (ESH) founded in 1891 is a 501(c) (3) organization that has served the South Bronx since 1963. The organization is dedicated to the community and focused on providing resources and opportunities. East Side House has identified that education is the foundation for economic improvement
and through its youth education and technology programs it teaches skills to allow its students and clients to become more self-sufficient and independent. As a community resource the organization also provides services to families and a growing senior population.

East Side House Settlement is a vital community resource in the South Bronx. We believe education enables individuals to create economic and civic opportunities for themselves their families and their communities. The Afterschool Front Desk & Safety Coordinator supports the delivery of a robust engaging and safe after school experience at our Mitchel Community Center COMPASS program. This role also serves as a Group Leader supervising students and maintaining a welcoming and secure program environment. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong organizational skills works independently under pressure and is committed to learning and professional growth within the agency.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Serve as the first point of contact for families during student check-in and check-out ensuring awelcoming and professional experience.
  2. Monitor student safety in program spaces including classrooms common areas and during transitions.
  3. Identify manage and resolve conflicts or behavioral issues among students escalating to program leadership as needed.
  4. Support program staff with supervision safety protocols and daily operations including modeling bestpractices and mentoring as appropriate.
  5. Maintain clean organized program areas and ensure materials equipment and supplies are managedproperly.
  6. Respond to emergencies and follow established safety procedures and protocols.
  7. Maintain accurate records including attendance logs incident reports daily program logs and otherdocumentation in line with licensing and program standards.
  8. Assist in planning facilitating and enhancing youth programming and enrichment activities as neededactively engaging students in learning and development.
  9. Communicate effectively with students families and staff including bilingual translation as needed.
  10. Participate in team meetings trainings and professional development opportunities to supportcollaboration growth and program excellence.
  11. Demonstrate professionalism accountability and creativity in problem-solving and student engagement.

Qualifications

Qualifications / Requirements

  • High school diploma required; some college or an associate degree preferred.
  • Experience with after-school school-age childcare or youth development programs.
  • Familiarity with the Bronx community and local resources.
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; approachable and team oriented.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfort with computer systems Microsoft Office Google Suite and data entry platforms.
  • Interest in ongoing professional development and growth within the agency.
  • Creativity and innovation in supporting student programming and engagement strategies.
  • Willingness to adapt to changing needs and meet high expectations for program excellence

Required Clearances

  • Department of Health Fingerprint Clearance
  • State Central Registry (SCR) Clearance ($25.00 fee)
  • Staff Exclusion List (SEL) Clearance
  • Physical Examination and TB Test
  • COVID Vaccine

Supervisory Responsibility

  • This role has no supervisory responsibilities.


Work Environment

  • Professional community-based environment
  • Routine use of standard office equipment (computers phones photocopiers filing cabinets faxmachines)

Physical Demands

  • Mostly sedentary with some filing faxing copying scanning and site visits required.
  • Must be able to lift files open filing cabinets bend and stand on a stool as necessary.

Expected Work Schedule

  • Seasonal part-time (up to 20 hours/week)
  • MondayFriday; schedule subject to change based on ESH needs

Travel

  • Primarily local for trips and scattered sites
