Job Description

Introduction

Purpose

The Accounting Program Assistant III performs accounting andadministrative functions to ensure the efficient operation of the GeneralAccounting Division in the Office of the Comptroller.

Essential Functions

Accounting

  • Provide lead technical support in the accounting for tax deed properties.
  • Analyze review and document tax deed property acquisitions and disposals including the process of returning excess proceeds to prior owners.
  • Review analyze and reconcile the year-end list of properties and values for the financial statement audit.

Record Retention

  • Document and prepare tax deed property records.
  • Assist with records retention duties including drafting departmental procedures preparing forms submitting documents to the Records Committee and working with City departments for accurate accounting of tax deed information.

Administrative

  • Assist accountants in the analysis of account queries retrieval of documents preparation of spreadsheets and worksheets and data entry to accounting modules.
  • Perform reconciliations for management City departments and internal and external auditors.
  • Assist in accounting system testing and research.
  • Establish and maintain a system of imaging contracts and agreements with an appropriate index of key elements for future inquiries.
  • Maintain data for disclosure of all future annual revenues and expenditures associated with ongoing capital and operating leases.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Three years of progressively responsible accounting or financial support experience performing duties closely related to the essential functions of this position.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may alsobe considered.

  • Experience using PeopleSoft.

Knowledge Skills Abilities & Other Characteristics

Technical

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and practices.
  • Knowledge of mathematics and the ability to make accurate calculations.
  • Knowledge of customer service best practices and the ability to effectively integrate them into operational processes.
  • Ability to understand and apply accounting concepts to relevant City business processes and guidelines.
  • Ability to read and understand documents such as budgets policies and other technical publications.
  • Ability to use manage and query data within software programs such as Microsoft Excel Access and the internet.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently utilize the Citys financial management information system (Oracle/PeopleSoft).
  • Proficiency using standard computer software and programs such as word processing spreadsheet and financial software systems and databases.

Communication and Interpersonal

  • Written communication skills to write clear and concise documents and correspondence.
  • Verbal communication skills to share information and respond to questions.
  • Ability to maintain professional courteous and effective working relationships with managers fellow staff direct reports and outside parties.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and fairly with people whose backgrounds may differ from ones own.

  • Ability to effectively analyze and resolve issues and exercise sound judgment.

Current Salary

The current salary range (Pay Range 5GN) is$54401-$66689annually and the current resident incentive salary range for City of Milwaukeeresidents is$56033-$68690.Appointment above the minimum is possible based upon level of experience and other qualifications and is subject to approval.
