Job Summary

Overview

The Department of Psychology at Utah State University seeks candidates for a Professional Practice Assistant Professor position to support the teaching mission of the Master of Education program in School Counseling. This position will be focused on teaching and supervision within this graduate level program. Applicants with teaching experience in higher education and using different instruction modalities (online face-to-face asynchronous) are desired but all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply. The position is located on USUs main campus in Logan Utah. This position is not eligible for remote work. This is a full-time non-tenure track nine-month (academic-year) appointment. This position start date is August 1 2026. Review of applications will begin November 1 2025 and will continue until the position is filled.

School Counseling Program housed within Utah State Universitys Psychology Department offers a nationally accredited Master of Education program in School Counseling under AAQEP accreditation that prepares graduates for professional licensure in School Counseling. The program prioritizes training in the design and implementation of school-based counseling and comprehensive guidance programs. The curriculum is designed to develop students expertise across a broad range of competencies including social emotional and personal development; college and career readiness; behavioral and educational assessment and intervention; ethical legal and professional standards; individual and group counseling for diverse populations; and consultation within K-12 educational settings. The . program currently enrolls more than 120 students located across the state of Utah. Instruction is delivered through multiple modalities including in-person online and asynchronous formats that utilize both technological platforms and face-to-face interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver graduate-level instruction within areas of expertise and in accordance with departmental requirements. The standard teaching assignment consists of 4 courses per semester with accompanying supervision responsibilities; summer instruction is contingent upon availability and programmatic needs.
  • Provide academic advisement and mentorship to graduate students throughout their program of study.
  • Serve on graduate program committees within the school counseling program and actively participate in curriculum development and program enhancement initiatives.
  • Foster and maintain programmatic excellence across all aspects of the school counseling program.
  • Contribute meaningful service to the department college university and broader professional community

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision or closely related field (ABD candidates considered with clear completion plan) OR Masters degree in School Counseling or closely related field.
  • Demonstrated potential for productivity and excellence in teaching and mentoring adult learners.
  • Eligible for licensure within the State of Utah as a School Counselor (SC; and/or a Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CMHC; of positive working relationships with counseling professionals and faculty.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Expertise in online synchronous asynchronous or face-to-face teaching within higher education or experience managing technology-enhanced college instruction in both synchronous and asynchronous modalities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Past experience serving as a faculty or involvement in a CACREP-accredited program is preferred.
  • Hold or be eligible to sit for the National Certified Counselor (NCC) certification exam and/or hold or be eligible to sit for the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling (NCMHC) certification exam.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising school counseling practicum and/or internship students including knowledge of supervision models ability to provide developmental feedback experience with evaluation processes and familiarity with site coordination and collaboration with field-based supervisors.
  • Teaching experience or expertise in one or more of the following content areas: Evidence-Based Practice in School Intervention; Comprehensive and Systemic School Counseling Programs; Principles of Psychological Measurement and Test Theory; Consultation in Schools; Introduction to Theories of Intervention in Psychology; Program Evaluation in Schools: Models and Guidelines; Legal Ethical and Professional Issues in School Counseling; College and Career Readiness for School Counselors; and Practicum and/or Internship in School Counseling. Other teaching content area expertise will also be considered.
