Job Description Summary

The Institute of Public Safety (IPS) Assistant facilitates and administers the nightly operations of IPS and works as part of a team providing department support. The IPS Specialist greets visitors in the lobby monitors the IPS building locks and unlocks doors and handles administrative tasks emerging issues and other matters after normal business hours which is Monday - Friday until 10:00 pm and at various times on the weekends when needed. This position may supervise the work of others and has accountability in areas of assigned responsibility.

Job Description

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Greets visitors answers phones responds to inquiries and resolves issues based on established college policies making appropriate referrals as needed.

  • Serves as the primary night key holder for the IPS building.

  • Checks training equipment in and out maintaining records.

  • Secures all doors at the end of the night and sets alarms in the building when appropriate.

  • Assists instructors with copying materials and use of A/V equipment in classrooms.

  • Completes visual checks of fire extinguishers and AEDs notifying supervisor of any issues.

  • Checks and fills first aid kits.

  • Reports broken equipment or lights out on nightly log.

  • Secures building on property at end of shift.

  • Completes special projects appropriate to position.

  • Complies with all published College Rules procedures guidelines and laws/regulations governing public employees including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction FERPA and confidentiality.

  • Strictly honors the privacy security and confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state federal and college regulations policies and procedures.

  • Provides service excellence through courteous informed accessible and professional engagement.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Business Manager Institute of Public Safety

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: An associate degree and two (2) years of experience or a combination of completed education and/or experience equal to four (4) years.
