Job Description

Director of IT Operations

FLSA Status: Exempt

Department: IT

Reports To: Chief Information Officer

Jackson Walker the largest law firm in Texas has an exciting full-time employment opportunity for a Director of IT Operations. The role is to plan direct and coordinate the design installation and connectivity of computer systems and network infrastructure to ensure the stable operation of the organizations IT assets. This includes developing configuring maintaining supporting and optimizing all new and existing network hardware software and communication links. This role is also responsible for telephony data center operations Audio Visual Systems Technology Resource Center (Helpdesk) Desktop Support and other electronic infrastructure.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Develop implement and maintain policies procedures and associated training plans for network resource administration and appropriate use.
  • Practice network and end user computing asset management including maintenance of network component inventory life cycle management and related documentation.
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on network products end user computing devices services protocols and standards in support of network and device procurement and development efforts.
  • Maintain a best of breed Network Infrastructure and End User Compute monitoring system allowing proactive management of all systems.
  • Work closely with the Chief Operations Officer to design install and maintain Audio Visual systems across all Firm Offices.
  • Consult with Firm Management on new office space requirements including reconstruction of existing space and lease verbiage as it pertains to technical needs.
  • Prepare RFPs bid proposals contracts scope of work reports and other documentation for IT Network projects and associated efforts.
  • Perform cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions.
  • Negotiate with vendors outsourcers and contractors to secure network and end user computing products and services.
  • Manage and ensure effectiveness of computing servers storage and infrastructure including e-mail print domain controller virtualization and backup servers and their associated operating systems and software. Responsible for on-site and off-site data centers.
  • Manage and ensure optimal operation of all network/end user hardware and equipment including routers switches AV systems Laptops Desktops UPSs etc.
  • Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the organizations executives decision-makers stakeholders department heads and end users regarding pertinent network activities.
  • Manage operational costs; conduct near- and long-term financial forecasts for expanded functionality/user base.
  • Test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports; develop strategies for maintaining network infrastructure.
  • Oversee the administration of user accounts permissions and access rights in AD.
  • Oversee the Onboarding Offboarding and Moves Adds/Changes of Firm Personnel and external users.
  • Works closely with the CIO Director of Information Security and General Counsel to ensure best practices concerning the security of Firm and Client Information along with best of class business continuity and disaster recovery processes and procedures.
  • Partners with Firm management to ensure systems meet all regulatory and client compliancy needs.
  • Assist with the development of Policy to govern data retention and other data management access and use procedures.
  • Oversee service desk operations desktop support and endpoint management teams.
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through effective service delivery and support.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs SLAs and continuous improvement metrics.
  • Manage lifecycle of end-user hardware and software including procurement deployment and retirement.
  • Lead initiatives around automation self-service and remote support capabilities.
  • Foster a culture of accountability innovation and customer-centricity.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Exceptional knowledge of service and application delivery as well as successful service level agreement accomplishments.
  • Excellent knowledge of current protocols and standards including Active Directory Group Policies MS Exchange Core Switching/Routing SSL/IPSec SAN Virtualization Business Continuity Disaster Recovery and AV Technologies.
  • Experience in interpreting the applicability of local and federal laws/regulations (including data privacy practices and laws) to company operations.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting hardware such as servers routers switches storage network interface cards etc.
  • Knowledge and understanding of system flow charts data processing concepts and telecommunications principles.
  • Experience installing network cabling and telephony systems.

Education:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience managing and configuring enterprise-wide LANs WANs WLANs VPNs etc.; and 5 years successful leadership of an infrastructure team.

Working Conditions:

  • Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise and temperature.
  • Some travel is expected for this position ability to travel locally/other JW offices to manage the law offices technology systems occasionally required.
  • Work occasionally requires more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position; may require irregular hours.
