Job Summary

Job Title: Accountant

Reports to: Accounting Supervisor

Dept. /School: Finance Department

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Pay Grade: Business 2/240 Days

Primary Purpose:

Perform general accounting work relating to the preparation administration and control of the district financial resources.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelors degree in accounting or finance-related field

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of governmental accounting and auditing principles established by the Governmental

Accounting System Board (GASB)

Ability to analyze and interpret financial data

Ability to analyze and evaluate accounting problems develop data and recommend and document improved procedures

Knowledge of computerized accounting systems

Ability to use personal computer and software to develop complex accounting reports spreadsheets and databases

Ability to work with numbers in an accurate and rapid manner

Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Experience:

Two years accounting experience at a high level of responsibility

School district accounting preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Accounting

  1. Maintain the general ledger and prepare journal entries and budget transfers.
  2. Prepare income balance sheets statements consolidated statements and other statements and reports.
  3. Classify record and summarize numerical and financial data to compile and keep financial records using journals and ledgers or computer.
  4. Prepare enter and record disbursement of district funds.
  5. Check figures postings and documents for correct entry mathematical accuracy proper codes and budget availability.
  6. Prepare bank deposits by compiling data verifying and balancing receipts and sending cash checks or other forms of payment to banks.
  7. Reconcile records of bank transactions.
  8. Set up and maintain account controls logs and files.
  9. Review and verify accuracy of journal entries accounting methods and procedures.
  10. Debit credit and total accounts on computer spreadsheets and databases using specialized accounting software.

Administration

  1. Work with administrators principals directors and staff regarding budget and accounting issues.

Records and Reports

  1. Record store and analyze information using accounting software.
  2. Prepare timely audit schedules and financial statements according to federal state and GASB standards.
  3. Compile maintain and file all physical and computerized reports records and other documents required including auditable records and financial statements.
  4. Develop and maintain accurate charts of accounts including the allocation of program income and outlays and in-kind contributions.
  5. Assist in the resolution of audit exceptions and implementation of auditors recommendations.
  6. Work in coordination with Region 9s business office.
