Purpose
The Engineering Technician V oversees intake routing andgeneral organization of building and Department of Public Works (DPW) permits.
Essential Functions
Permit Coordination and Review
- Review plans to verify information and assist individuals seeking a permit.
- Oversee intake routing coordination and general organization of permit process.
- Work with other DPW sections to facilitate timely reviews of permit requests.
- Track the status of all permit applications in process.
- Review and compile plan coordination from DPW sections for permit processing.
- Review building permits for encroachments and work in the public right-of-way and for potential drainage issues.
Field Work and Administrative
- Meet virtually or in person with contractors developers and individuals to discuss the permitting process and requirements.
- Respond to e-mail and telephone inquiries.

Minimum Requirements
1. Regular status as a City of Milwaukee employee havingsuccessfully completed a probationary period for a civil service position orstatus as a City of Milwaukee employee in a fixed-term position.
2. Five years of full-time experience as a municipal utilityengineering technician surveying technician public works inspector orconstruction materials inspector performing work closely related to theessential functions of this position.
OR
An associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology or a closely related field ANDthree years of experience as a municipal utility engineering techniciansurveying technician public works inspector or construction materialsinspector performing work closely related to the essential functions of thisposition.
3. A valid drivers license and good driving record at the timeof appointment and throughout employment.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may beconsidered; however there is no substitution for two years of related workexperience.

THE SELECTION PROCESS will be job-related and will consistof one or more of the following: an evaluation of related educationexperience and accomplishments an evaluation of written communicationinterviews and/or other assessment methods. The Department of Public Worksreserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates to proceed in theselection process. Information from the selection process will be used to makea hiring decision. Selected candidates will be transferred and/or promoted tothe position.
