The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) is dedicated to transforming young lives creating safer communities and fostering equitable systems. We are seeking passionate individuals for the role of the IT Systems Technical Specialist so come join our team and make a meaningful impact on youth and the community at DJS!

In this role you will help ensure the smooth operation and support of computer applications and systems communication equipment peripheral devices and security systems. The work may also involve recommending and coordinating site visits to field offices and facilities across the state when needed. You will serve as the primary receiver for IT equipment manage inventory and carry out inventory control activities to keep records accurate and up to date. This role also includes serving as the on-call administrator during evening hours for two weeks each quarter. Your contributions will play a key part in keeping technology reliable secure and accessible for everyone who depends on it.

Some key responsibilities of this position may include but are not limited to the following:
Ensuring the reliability and performance of critical technology systems by installing testing and supporting operating systems network infrastructure servers switches and routers. Automate updates and implement solutions that keep systems secure efficient and fully operational.
Delivering expert proactive support to users by resolving hardware software and network issues providing guidance and enabling staff to work effectively without disruption.
Managing and optimizing IT inventory by maintaining accurate records tracking assets recommending replacements and serving as the primary point of contact for incoming technology equipment.
Collaborating with vendors to maintain and enhance technology resources by coordinating installations testing repairs and returns ensuring timely resolutions that sustain overall system reliability.

This position is eligible to work a hybrid telework schedule.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:One (1) year of experience maintaining and modifying operatingsystems for multipurpose multi-tasking computers.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology Computer Science Management Information Systems or other information technology related field to include course work in machine or assembler computer languages and operating system and data communication technology for multipurpose multi-tasking computersfor the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute experience operating multipurpose multi-tasking computer systems; or scheduling controlling input and output or maintaining a tape library to process data on multipurpose multi-tasking computer systems; or converting data from project specifications by developing program code using third generation computer programming languages; or designing developing and maintaining communications networks on a year-for-year basisfor ahigh school education.

3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology Computer Science Management Information Systems or other information technology related field to include course work in machine or assembler computer languages and operating system and data communication technology for multipurpose multi-tasking computers for the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces militaryservice experience as a commissioned officer in theComputer Systems Operations classifications or Computer Systems Operations specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for therequired experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Thepreferred candidate for this position may possess any of the following:
  • Experience with installing testing debugging and maintaining new and revised operating system software or data communication software.
  • Experience with monitoring computer system performance and utilization and develops plans to modify and upgrade operating systems.
  • Experience in managing IT inventory systems including tracking hardware and software assets maintaining accurate records of equipment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in 24 hours a day andtherefore may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where the employee can be reached.
