DescriptionIn accordance with the Vision Purpose and Values and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Preceptor works in a team based computerized environment and is responsible for instructing Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) students during their rotation through the clinic or hospital creates a positive and inclusive learning environment demonstrates expertise and leadership in DMS and performs technical and diagnostic procedures as required. Duties include receiving and completing requisitions forms and reports; preparing and monitoring supplies and equipment; patient monitoring; and operating ultrasound equipment including preparing and presenting patient data to reporting physician.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Training And Experience
- Graduation from an approved Ultrasound Technologist Diploma program.
- Sonography Canada and/or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certification credentials as a Generalist Sonographer and three (3) years recent related experience in a health care setting or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification - Basic Life Support (BCLS) level (CCHW Site Only).
- Eligible for registration with Sonography Canada.
Skills And Abilities
- Organize and coordinate workload.
- Establish priorities in collaboration with others.
- Work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary health care team. Problem solve.
- Foster good public relations.
- Operate related equipment including computerized systems.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Physically able to perform the duties of the position.
- Ability to teach and provide leadership supervision and student evaluation.
- Ability to teach students and others both one-on-one and in groups.
