Job Description

Evening Post Books the book publishing division of Evening Post Publishing publisher of The Post and Courier is seeking a paid marketing intern for the fall term. The intern is expected to be in the office in downtown Charleston 10-15 hours per week between early October and the end of December. Scheduling time within EPB office hours is flexible and there is an option to extend through the spring term for students who demonstrate a strong understanding and execution of the objectives below.

Candidates should be enrolled in or recently graduated from a four-year college or university with studies focused on marketing communications graphic design applied English or a related field. Reporting to the marketing manager the marketing interns goal is to work alongside the editorial team and marketing manager to transpose EPB happenings (books author news bookstore partnerships events etc) to social media and digital platforms to increase brand awareness and reach. By working as a marketing intern the student will have the opportunity to acquire and further develop their communication skills time management abilities and creativity in a professional environment through a book publishing lens.

An ideal candidate will:

  • Possess strong written and verbal skills
  • Be a detail-driven doer who takes pride in crossing things off a list and keeping tasks and assets organized
  • Operate as a creative thinker with a no project too big or too small mindset
  • Have experience in Canva and social media platforms (required). InDesign Shopify Constant Contact Klaviyo or analytics tools like Metricool are a plus
  • Be familiar with the Microsoft Suite and other file management platforms namely Outlook calendar SharePoint and DropBox
  • Possess a keen eye for project/time management prioritization and execution
  • Be comfortable working and managing tasks independently and as part of a team
  • Be a metrics-minded learner curious about what data says and how it informs

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Scheduling developing creating and posting social media content
  • Managing the EPB content calendar
  • Pitching and creating web content (blogs) and monthly newsletters
  • Monitoring social media platforms and analytics and engaging with followers
  • Collaborating on press releases and pitches for new titles
  • Attending events to capture content

Physical demands:

  • Long periods of sitting
  • Repetitive wrist hand and finger movement (while operating a computer)
  • Occasional bending stooping and lifting (15-30 pounds)
  • Eye-hand coordination (typing)
  • Extended periods of reading fine print on a screen

This role is for someone who loves both building (graphics campaigns content systems media lists) and finishing (checklists reports follow-ups). As a small team your work will drive impact and growth before your eyes. Youll leave with a real portfolio of work and the satisfaction of seeing your efforts bring books to life.
