Summary:
The Director of Clinical Practice and Education is responsible for driving clinical practice and education within a designated service line across the system. The Director works with the AVP/VPs of Patient Care Services and provides collaboration and clinical supervision of the Advanced Nurse Clinicians (ANCs) Advanced Clinical Educators (ACEs) and Senior Educators (SEs) within the designated service line to ensure positive clinical outcomes for designated patient populations. This is accomplished through the professional development of staff interdisciplinary coordination of care clinical leadership and driving the evidenced informed practice ensuring standardization to get to zero harm. The Director of Clinical Practice and Education maintains exemplary professional interpersonal communication skills and displays advanced analytical ability. Key activities include partnership with leadership in all clinical areas to ensure implementation of evidenced informed policies and nursing standards of practice across the continuum of care; facilitation of best practices across the system; and establishment of successful relationships with nursing staff physicians and members of other clinical disciplines. The Director of Clinical Practice and Education provides clinical and administrative leadership and clinical expertise throughout the organization by providing a professional practice environment promoting shared decision-making and professional autonomy.
Position Responsibilities:
Demonstrates leadership and accountability for clinical functions and goals of the ANCs ACEs and SEs across multiple units.
Oversees directs and guides the orientation and the professional development of ANCs ACEs and SEs (in collaboration with the AVPs).
Oversees directs and guides the orientation and the professional development of staff at the unit level in collaboration with the nursing leadership in the clinical departments.
Oversees directs and guides the competency assessment program for the clinical areas in collaboration with the human resources department and the clinical departments to achieve the highest clinical quality and to enhance a caring culture.
Supports the clinical work of the ANCs ACEs and SEs. Empowers the ANCs ACEs and SEs to participate in decision-making.
Supports the ANCs ACEs and SEs in planning implementing and evaluating strategies to meet individual unit goals which are congruent the health systems strategic goals and mission.
Contribute to the strategic plan with the Nurse Executive Council and implements aspects of the strategic plan relevant to the competence and professional development of staff.
Supports the development of the relationship between the ANC (or ACE/SE) Assistant Nurse Manager and Nurse Director ensuring that the ANC (ACE/SE) is active visible and accountable for clinical outcomes on their unit of coverage.
Expert Collaboration with
Work may sometimes include working with staff or leaders on evening night and weekend shifts.
Serves as advisor to designated practice council. Standardizes nursing practice and ensure clinical quality efforts across the system. Provide leadership and consultation to specialty practice chairpersons to ensure system approach to nursing practice. May also chair system committees or participate as a committee member.
Collaborates with other members of the clinical learning team to support shared governance and Nursing Congress. Provides leadership and guidance to shared governance teams related to nursing practice model and nursing practice issues.
Act as nursing/quality liaison; active member of Quality Risk and Safety Team. Participate in quality/process improvement as required.
Serves as a role model for the tenants of high reliability organizations.
Collaborates with operational leadership to ensure Care Coordination by facilitating the interaction of nursing services with other members of the health care team.
Evaluates the quality safety and appropriateness of care utilizing patient outcome data and takes appropriate action depending on results.
Ensures implementation of evidence based best practices across the system.
Coordinate the nursing policy and procedure update process. This includes assisting in development of new policies review of policy updates and dissemination of information throughout the System.
Assist with recognition processes submission of applications documentation and data. May need to assist with planning and orchestrating site visits and celebrations.
Position Qualifications Required / Experience Required:
Requires a minimum of 5 years of nursing management experience preferably in a multi-hospital setting and preferably at a Director level.
Must have experience managing large projects.
Excellent communication and writing skills are required.
Demonstrates ability to influence outcomes and lead various groups to achieve pre-determined goals
Required Education:
Requires a Doctorate in Nursing Practice. Candidates already enrolled in a DNP program may be considered.
Training/Certifications/Licensure:
License and certifications related to specialty area.
