Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced DB2 Database Administrator (DBA) to manage maintain and optimize our enterprise DB2 database systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring high availability security performance and reliability of DB2 environments across multiple platforms (z/OS and/or LUW). This role requires in-depth expertise in DB2 architecture backup and recovery performance tuning and database design. The candidate will collaborate with application developers infrastructure teams and business users to support mission-critical systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install configure patch and upgrade IBM DB2 databases (LUW and/or z/OS).
- Monitor and optimize database performance query response times and resource usage.
- Perform backup recovery and disaster recovery planning and execution using tools like IBM TSM or native utilities.
- Design and implement data models tables indexes and stored procedures based on application requirements.
- Manage security and access controls ensuring compliance with company policies and industry standards.
- Work closely with development teams to support application changes schema modifications and SQL performance tuning.
- Automate administrative tasks using scripting (Shell Python or Perl).
- Create and maintain documentation related to database configuration standards and processes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related incidents service requests and performance issues.
- Participate in on-call support rotation and provide emergency support as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Systems or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 10 years of experience as a DB2 DBA preferably with both DB2 LUW and/or DB2 for z/OS.
- Proficient in SQL PL/SQL and database utilities.
- Hands-on experience with database monitoring tools (e.g. IBM Data Studio Quest Toad BMC or other).
- Strong understanding of database backup/recovery replication and high availability strategies.
- Experience with data migration upgrades and patch management.
- Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS Azure or IBM Cloud) is a plus.
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- IBM Certified Database Administrator for DB2.
- Experience with mainframe systems (z/OS).
- Familiarity with data warehousing ETL processes and business intelligence tools.
- Knowledge of DevOps CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) concepts.
