Job Description
Job Title: Histotechnologist
Specialty: Histology / Cytology
Site: VA White River Junction
Location: 163 Veterans Drive White River Junction VT 05009
Duration: 1 year contract
Shift Schedule: Monday Friday 8:00 AM 4:30 PM (may require occasional weekends holidays and overtime; no on-call duties)
License / Certifications:
- ASCP (HTL) Histotechnologist Certification (Required)
- BLS Certification (Preferred not mandatory)
Education:
- Bachelors degree in Health Sciences Medical Laboratory Technology Biology Microbiology Chemistry or related field (Required)
- Masters degree in related field (Preferred but not required)
Minimum Qualification/ Experience:
- 3 years of recent histology and cytology experience (Required)
Responsibilities:
- Perform grossing accessioning embedding cutting staining and cover-slipping of tissue specimens.
- Prepare special stains as requested by pathologists.
- Assist with frozen sections surgical specimens and autopsies.
- Maintain specimen integrity control processing conditions and ensure timely preparation.
- Serve as back-up morgue assistant when required.
- Ensure accurate patient/sample identification and safeguard patient information.
- Document and resolve specimen processing testing and reporting issues.
- Support quality assurance compliance and patient-centered care
