Position Title: Shop Superintendent
Schedule: Monday Saturday 7:00 AM 6:00 PM with occasional Sundays as needed
Time Allocation: 70% Shop Floor / 30% Office/Admin
General Overview
The Shop Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all operations within the fabrication shop ensuring quality efficiency safety and on-time delivery of projects. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring deep knowledge of fabrication processes strong organizational skills and the ability to direct and motivate a team. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate a boots on the ground approach to leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret fabrication project scopes and develop effective manufacturing workflows and plans.
- Manage multiple fabrication projects simultaneously to meet deadlines and quality standards.
- Supervise and coordinate all shop operations including fabrication finishing quality control assembly and equipment maintenance.
- Direct the daily activities of production employees including shop foremen and quality control technicians.
- Monitor shop performance metrics and implement best practices to improve productivity safety and quality.
- Maintain strong quality assurance by ensuring accuracy and timeliness of all incoming and outgoing materials and finished products.
- Collaborate with purchasing engineering drafting and project management to align production with project requirements.
- Plan and adjust staffing needs based on production goals and changing priorities.
- Anticipate and address shop needs such as material availability tooling shop drawings or special components.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Proven experience in steel fabrication including structural architectural tanks plate and sheet metal work.
- Strong leadership background in manufacturing or fabrication environments; structural steel fabrication experience preferred.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting fabrication drawings welding symbols and specifications.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing production schedules.
- Strong communication skills to effectively lead teams and collaborate with cross-functional departments.
- Solid math skills and computer proficiency including MS Office and fabrication-specific software.
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Manufacturing (preferred but not required).
