Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Pharmacy in collaboration with the Pharmacy Leadership team the Pharmacy Project Manager will lead and support project management activities associated with the Pharmacy Department and hospital-wide medication management priorities. The Pharmacy Project Manager will collaborate with the Pharmacy Informatics CMH Information Management Technology teams and external vendors as required to implement maintain and upgrade pharmacy automation associated software servers interfaces and workflows. Work will also include maintaining the Pharmacy module in the current Health Information System (HIS) including the drug formulary order sets and associated dictionaries. The Pharmacy Project Manager will act as a clinical champion supporting safe Medication Management processes that align with Pharmacy Department strategic priorities and corporate quality improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will utilize the corporate project management framework to drive project success through effective stakeholder engagement robust planning meticulous execution and communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads the planning implementation monitoring and evaluation of current and future Pharmacy Quality Improvement Projects.
  • Monitors and manages project scope and deliverables within specified timelines
  • Reviews and optimizes current state processes and initiates hospital and pharmacy department quality improvements in collaboration with the Pharmacy Leadership team and stakeholders.
  • Ensures alignment of all assigned projects with the Organizational strategy through effective stakeholder engagement cross-functional collaboration and approvals at relevant hospital committees
  • Facilitates effective communication and education across the organization and the project teams
  • Supports and mentors project team members
  • Provides regular progress reports to Pharmacy Leadership regarding project plans timelines milestones deliverables risks and challenges.
  • Proactively identifies significant project risks develops mitigation strategies escalates to leadership and implements approved mitigation steps
  • Maintains pharmacy automation and software to ensure up to date processes to optimize and deliver safe medication practices
  • Troubleshoots system issues and addresses departmental concerns
  • Provides medication expertise and knowledge of hospital and pharmacy regulations when developing or updating policies procedures and order sets
  • Champions stakeholder engagement and approval for new or revised policies and procedures at various interprofessional committees.
  • Supports digital health efforts representing medication management processes

Skills and Qualifications

  • Registration as a licensed pharmacist with the Ontario College of Pharmacists in good standing
  • Minimum of 5 years experience as Clinical Hospital Pharmacist
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a healthcare-related leadership/supervisory role
  • A Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred.
  • Experience in clinical informatics an asset
  • Expert in Ontario College of Pharmacists Assessment criteria and standards of practice Accreditation Canada Medication Management and Communication Required Safety Practices.
  • Expert knowledge of technical pharmacy practice (drug distribution systems) and clinical pharmacy services
  • Ability to improve medication safety by facilitating the application of evidence informed practices.
  • Problem solving skills for analyzing data and using results to develop and implement viable solutions to improve processes/outcomes.
  • Working knowledge of all modules of Health Information systems (Pharmacy modules materials management automated dispensing cabinet distribution systems drug information software internet resources Microsoft Office).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to motivate mentor and guide individuals.
  • Well developed judgement and decision-making skills.
  • Strong time management skills ability to work under pressure self- directed and ability to work as a part of team or lead a team.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills and possess the ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Experience in project management teaching professional development e-learning and principles of adult education will be an asset
